Covert’d Updated

CovertNike Golf has introduced the new VRS Covert 2.0 Matte Black Edition Driver for the 2014 golf season. The company is back in black – a color traditionally associated with power, strength and sophistication.

“The Covert 2.0 Matte Black Edition driver offers a unique, limited-edition design combined with Nike’s high speed cavity back technology,” said Rob Arluna, Nike Golf Global Golf Club business director. “The black matte finish on the head provides a sleek, modern aesthetic and eliminates glare. The black grip and shaft give the driver a stealth, covert look.”

The Covert 2.0 Matte Black Edition driver features Fly-Brace technology that ties the sole to the crown, stiffening the rear portion of the club and transferring more energy to the face at impact, while the High-Speed Cavity Back technology can redistribute the weight to the heel and toe allowing for increased distance and more stability across the face of the driver.

The new driver also boasts two additional proprietary technologies from Nike Golf including a larger, re-engineered NexCOR face for increased ball speed and distance; and FlexLoft adjustability, which allows athletes to easily customize loft and face angle positions for 15 drivers in one.

TW’-14-familyNike Golf has introduced the latest footwear design in its TW’ 14 family. The TW’ 14 Mesh is breathable, flexible and perfect for summer, and this shoe merges innovative technologies from the original TW’ 14, such as the Nike Free-inspired outsole, with custom options previously only available on NIKEiD. In addition Nike Golf designers paired the Nike Free-inspired design and Dynamic Flywire technology featured in the TW’ 14 with a ventilated mesh upper and lower-profile Integrated Traction on the outsole.

“The mesh upper and Integrated Traction options have been incredibly successful with the TW’ 14 on NIKEiD,” says Lee Walker, Nike Golf Footwear Product Director. “Consumers have told us they love it. So we created a version of the TW’ 14 with those features that people can try on in stores and purchase on the spot.”

A Mightly Wind

Hyperadapt Wind jacketNike’s new Hyperadapt Wind Jacket, which was released last month, might just blow you away. This jacket features four-way stretch technology but with a sweater-like feel that is windproof and rain-resistant, while elastic cuffs will keep the sleeves from moving up and down during the swing.

Nike also used reclaimed materials – in this case recycled coffee grounds – to produce the windproof coating on the outer shell. This helped reduce odor from perspiration while also assisting in UV protection. It is ready for spring… if that ever gets here!

Nike Doesn’t Sweat It

NikeWhile this winter could hold on for a while that could also mean a cool spring is on the horizon. Nike will have you covered for the golf course with the new Innovation Woven Cover-Up, which is designed to move with the body while keeping the wearer warm and dry. Unlike a jacket this sweater promises to offer more range of movement. It is part of the Nike Golf’s Stay Protected Line, and it features lightweight wind-and-water resistant Dri-FIT stretch woen body along with 3D knit sleeves that promises to keep warmth in. Once again we have to say Nike has golfers covered with this sweater, which arrived at retail last month.

Taking Covert

CovertNike Golf looks to have golfers covered this season with the VRS Covert Forged Irons, which the company claims will provide provide high-speed performance in a premium design. Nike Golf’s engineers incorporated a NexCOR face, Nike’s proprietary variable face thickness technology to deliver faster ball speed for greater distance.

In addition the new irons also offer a high-speed cavity back design with a lower, deeper center of gravity that can help golfers make longer and straighter shots.

“We focused on improving distance and off-center hit performance with the VRS Covert Forged irons,” explained Chris Savage, Nike Golf irons innovation engineer. “It’s the first time we designed a forged iron with a high-speed NexCOR face, and engineering the variable thickness really amplifies the trampoline effect off the face. We further enhanced the performance with balanced perimeter weighting via a deep, engineered cavity back design. In our testing, the VRS Covert Forged irons delivered up to seven additional yards in distance compared to last year’s product.”

“Our research shows that more than 80 percent of player impact is between the center and the toe side of an iron,” Savage added. “So another key focus on this product was to shift the center of gravity to the center of the face. By moving the true sweet spot to the area where most people hit the ball, we enhanced the iron’s feel and improved off center performance by as much as 17 percent.”

These clubs made their debut at the end of last month.

No Fake ID Here

NikeiDLast fall Nike asked consumers and golf fans to create a customized design for the Tiger Woods 14 golf shoes and we have a winter. The customization from the NikeiD is the real deal, and the Nike TW’14 has been unveiled.

The winning shoe was designed by Dane Thompson (@DaneJThompson), a big golf fan from Iowa. He create a patriotic theme for what he deemed will be a big year for Tiger, and Thompson designed the shoe with a white leather upper, blue midsole, and red Nike Swoosh, Nike Flywire and lace highlights. The shoe’s inspiration was to support team USA in the upcoming Olympics and the 2014 Ryder Cup, as well as to support Tiger in red, white, and blue at the 2014 US Open. Aside from the pride of designing Tiger’s favorite customized Nike TW’14 shoe, Thompson will have his design worn by Tiger on Tour in the early part of the 2014 season. Also, Thompson will receive a pair of the Nike TW’14 he designed.

Nike-Lunar-ClaytonNike Golf has entered the lunar orbit with the Nike Lunar Clayton, a shoe that is designed to celebrate the heritage and history of the sport of golf while providing athletes with superior comfort, supportive fit and an aesthetic appeal suitable for wear bothon and off the course.

Nike Golf Swings With New Wedges for 2014

VR-X3X-Toe-SweepGolfers know they won’t always hit the green in the most ideal conditions, but Nike Golf will help with the upcoming VR X3X Toe Sweep wedges, which can tackle rough or wet grass, difficult lies and even daunting bunkers. These were designed to be the solution for the toughest conditions golfers might face.

“We built the VR X3X Toe Sweep wedges from the ground up,” says Mike Taylor, Nike Golf Master Modelmaker. “Our Tour athletes have told us that the toe side of the sole is most critical in bunker performance. In a bunker shot, these new wedges are carefully crafted to provide bounce relative to the path of the club head. Around the green, our athletes ask for material to be ground away from the heel to aid open-face versatility – and we’ve done that with this new design.”

The VR X3X features improved groove technology to deliver a more consistent shot in all conditions, while the wider sole area toward the toe can help make it easier to hit out of the bunker. The new wedges will be available in January.

Nike Golf Goes Back to it Core

NikeNike Golf has returned to its core, the Speedlock RZN core technology that is. For the second time in just three years the company is looking to transform golf ball technology and it is building up its RZN core technology yet again. Nike Golf is adding four golf balls to the new RZN franchise – RZN Platinum, RZN Black, RZN Red and RZN White. These are each designed to deliver more distance thanks to interlocking geometry that helps eliminate the slipping that normally occurs between a traditional, smooth-surface core and the outer layer. This means better energy transfer through the layers and all the way to the core.

The result is more consistent and stable ball flight. It almost sounds as if Nike Golf is making it too easy.
