Folded Blades

SpydercoThis month Spyderco noted that sometimes “progress” is actually a step backward. The knife maker called out new knife laws in other countries – noting that Denmark has prohibited any one-hand-opening knife. Rather than just fold up and go home the knife maker has addressed the issue with modified versions of its U.K. Penknife!

The result is the Spyderco Spy-DK Orange Plain Edge Knife, which features a reduced blade, and removed the one-handed opening, but is otherwise still a solid pocketknife that will come in handy when needed.

On the Double

Double-BevelSpyderco has you fixed for folding blades with the Double Bevel, which draws its name from its most distinguishing characteristic—its unique double-ground blade. As with all Spyderco folders, the Double Bevel’s VG-10 stainless steel blade features the maker’s Trademark Round Hole for ambiidextrous one-handed opening, while the flat-ground section offers a distal taper that terminates in an Americanized tanto-style point for an exceptional balance of tip strength and sharpness. The tip is also full-flat-ground for superior edge geometry and low-friction cutting performance. This is a pocket knife that will get the job done.

We don’t expect most of these to be friendly with TSA but they could just the thing when you need to fix something and don’t have access to the tool box.

How Are You Fixed for Baladeo?

If you’re heading off into the wilds chances are you might not always want to eat with your hands, but don’t have space for a lot of utensils. The Baladeo Eco133 will solve that problem, as it folds up into a compact pocket knife-sized package but opens up into an individual knife and spork. This seems more ideal than eating with a bulky Swiss Army knife any day and allows for a semi-civilized attempt at eating.

In addition to the knife and spork tools provide a can opener and bottle opener, and are made of lightweight stainless steel to reduce bulk.

G. Wiseman Handman Knife a Wise Choice

Sometimes technology doesn’t need to be advanced to be reliable and durable. Case in point, the G. Wiseman handmade pocketknife, which features classic antique styling. Each knife is made by hand by Gene Wiseman, a former horseshoe maker.

The pocket knife doesn’t offer Bluetooth or GPS, but it will come in handy when you need it, and it will likely outlast most industrially made knives. It features a 2 3/4 –inch slip joint blade made of D-2 steel, hard black canvas micarta and brass pins. Knives can be made to order and even have the owner’s initials stamped in. Continue reading G.
