CamelBak Releases High-Flow Chute

CamelBakChuteRefillable water bottles have become quite the accessory whether you’re taking one on a workout, a hike or even just a long shopping expedition. CamelBak makes a number of rigid bottles, but one recurring complaint is that to get the water, you have to bite down on a nozzle and then draw the water from a straw. CamelBak has just released Chute, a high-flow bottle that is made with the same durable, rugged body of the existing line, but with a high-flow opening that pours water. Made in America: Bike Holster

Rocky-Mountain-HolsterWith a name like Rocky Mountain Holster should we be surprised that the company is introducing a Western themed bike cup holder for cruisers? Andrew Houston reportedly makes each leather cup and beer holder by hand out of leather at his Park City, Utah workshop. He further personalizes these as well.

The Rocky Mountain bike cup holders can carry cans, water bottles, beer, phones and wallets and these attach to a basket, handlebar, pannier or belt. Basically, wherever the leather straps can be looped and snapped, thus giving the bike a western look.

Camelback Gets Streamlined

CamelbackIt is said that a camel is a horse designed by committee, but it clearly didn’t take a committee to redesign the Camelback Podium Bottles, which are now easier to use and clean. This is notable in the improved Jet Valve and better aero features. The bottle offers a sleeker shape and should be ready to ride next season.

Vapur Filter

Vapur-MicroFilterWe’ve liked what we’ve seen with Vapur’s foldable water bottles. These are serious space savers for those on the go in the wilds. Now the company has unveiled its Explorer Series MicroFilter, which offers a lightweight, chemical-free water purification system that utilizes the most advanced hollow fiber membrane technology on the market.

The MicroFilter comes with a 1L Eclipse Anti-Bottle in either Olive or Night Blue, and in addition to using it with the Anti-Bottle, it can also be used like a straw to drink straight from the water source or squeezed from the Anti-Bottle into another beverage container. This creates a truly portable and versatile filtration system.

Boiling in the Sun

Solar-KettleSummer is almost here and for many that can mean it can be hot enough to cook an egg on the sidewalk. That’s not entirely practical, but British engineer James Bentham created the Solar Kettle, which can bring water to boil from the power of the sun’s rays. It is light enough to carry in a backpack and unlike a thermos can heat the water for cooking/

This portable thermos-like product utilizes a special thermal technology that requires no power – just a sunny day and a couple of hours. Video after the jump

Filter With WaterFiller

WaterFillerThere’s a few bottles out there that offer a filter to clean tap water. WaterFiller is one of the newer ones. This bottle comes with a foam filter that cleans water from chlorine, bad tastes and odors from water before you drink it. The bottle has a new shape that takes one hand to operate, leaving the other free for tasks, such as keeping a hand on your handlebars. Video after the Jump

Arming Up With Water

There have been numerous methods for carrying just enough water for a run, usually in small packs on the belt. That often means reaching for the water, but the Hydrosleeve is designed to allow runners to get a drink without breaking a stride.

As the name might imply it is a water bottle that is located on the runner’s arm. It holds up to seven fluid ounces, and is designed to compress as the runner drinks the water to ensure that what remains in the reservoir doesn’t need to sloush around. The Hydrosleeve is currently being developed through an Indiegogo campaign. We’ll drink to that. Video after the jump

Pak a Flask

Water bottle and hydration system maker Hydrapak is a bit like mythical serpent-like chthonic water beast that possessed many heads, but whereas the Lernaean Hydra had many heads Hydrapak just offers many hydration options for athletes.

The latest offerings are its new soft flasks, which include the 12 ounce SF350 and the 16 ounce SF 500. Both of these already won in ISPO’s Performance Accessories category, and expand on the company’s five and eight ounce flasks.

The new flasks, which are designed to deliver liquid, gel or a mix, can be tucked into a cycling jersey pocket or used with the optional hand strap for running. These also feature larger filling port and shut off value to ensure that you don’t end up all wet while taking them on the go.

Magnetic Attraction

Koala Bottle isn’t trying to reinvent the water bottle – although a few companies have tired – but rather it could be seen as reinventing the water bottle cage for bicycles. One problem of the cages, no matter whether these are plastic, metal or even carbon fiber, is that the bottle can sometimes be difficult to remove. That’s not a good thing when heading down the road in traffic, and never a good thing on the mountain bike trail.

This system ditches the cage and instead utilizes a semi-circular magnet embedded in the cradle, along with a stainless steel ring on the bottle. Koala is selling the complete system for around $27 with a 21 ounce bottle, but it is also offering a pair of rings for $8, which means the existing bottles could be retrofitted as well – provided the rings fit.
