Bauer just released a new helmet for hockey players that offers more protection. The helmet was unveiled by Bauer Hockey during the 2012 NHL All-Star Game, where it was worn by several players.
The Bauer RE-AKT helmet improves safety with a number of new technologies. It’s the first hockey helmet designed to better manage the multiple type of hits in the game, including rotational-force impacts, which cause a number of hockey-related head injuries.

The helmet features a SUSPEND-TECH liner, a rotational impact protection system designed to protect the head from excessive rotational acceleration when the helmet is impacted. The SUSPEND-TECH liner is constructed of PORON XRD, Extreme Impact Protection, a super-light, pliable material with the ability to dissipate extreme force on impact. PORON XRD is used by G-Form in a number of its padded protective clothing and personal electronics cases.
The RE-AKT helmet also features PORON XRD pads placed strategically in areas of the helmet where players need it.
Bauer designed the helmet with a new lightweight, multi-impact foam that features increased impact management properties compared to traditional EPP foams used. While lightweight, it is designed to manage multiple types of hits common to hockey play including low-energy impacts, high-energy impacts and rotational impacts. Previous helmets only handled high-energy impacts.

NHL players including Alex Ovechkin and Claude Girous have worn the Bauer RE-AKT helmet since its introduction into the league in January.
