Now that the winter that never really happened starts to get closer to spring, Nike is announcing several new styles and updates on shoes, uniforms and other products. The spring is about to get into gear.
Nike unveiled Nike Flyknit footwear, Nike Hyper Elite basketball uniform and Nike Lunarlon footwear this week. “The Nike Flyknit upper redefines the idea of running footwear: Lightweight and virtually seamless, it acts like a second skin for the foot and is precision engineered in one piece and one layer to minimize waste, dramatically changing how footwear is designed and manufactured,” said Nike President and CEO Mark Parker.
Nike Flyknit shoes are made by engineering yarns and fabrics to specific designs to place support exactly where it’s needed. The shoe is lightweight, formfitting and the upper is virtually seamless. All structure and support is knitted into the shoe. The entire shoe weighs 160 grams (5.6 ounces) for a size 9, that’s 19 percent lighter than the Nike Zoom Streak 3 shoe. Nike Flyknit is said to feel like a second skin. The company is adding an everyday running shoe, the Flyknit Trainer+, to its line. The shoe weighs 220 grams, or 7.7 ounces.
Nike Pro TurboSpeed is a lightweight, fast track uniform. Nike claims it’s the lightest and fastest, and based on tunnel data, it’s up to .023 seconds faster in a 100 meter run than the company’s previous track uniform.
Nike Zoom Spikes include the ultra-light Nike Zoom Superfly R4 and Nike Zoom Victory Elite spikes. Advances in fit, protection and the use of Nike’s Flywire technology allows for the shoe to loosen and tighten with the natural motion of the foot. The new design provides support and stability.
Nike Hyper Elite Basketball Uniform lightens up the uniform load on the court. The Nike Hyper Elite shorts weigh five ounces. The Nike authentic basketball jersey is the company’s lightest jersey yet. It features a breathable and durable design. The men’s jersey is made from 96 percent polyester fabric derived from recycled plastic bottles, and the short is 100 percent recycled polyester fabric. On average, Nike uses 22 recycled bottles per uniform. National basketball teams including USA, China and Brazil will wear the Nike Hyper Elite Basketball Uniform.
Nike Hyperdunk includes four shoes in the running, men’s training and women’s training line and is part of the Nike Lunarlon Collection. The Hyperdunk shoe uses Nike Flywire technology, and a basketball specific Nike Lunarlon cushioning system. What you get is a lightweight, supportive, durable and breathable shoe for basketball.
The shoe uses re-engineered Nike Lunarlon foam, which is 30 percent lighter than the standard Phylon foam used in sports shoe midsoles. The Lunarlon varies in density, and in parts is thicker to lend stability, and softer in other areas to absorb impact.
The Lunarlon Collection and Nike Basketball products will be available on June 29. The Nike Flyknit footwear will be available July 27.
