Over the past few years we’ve seen a few advancements in down that makes it warmer, better at staying dry and just more effective as a cold weather layer. Patagonia is now introducing Encapsil, a water-repellent down technology.
Encapsil uses a patented plasma nanotechnology that uses safe, silicone-based chemistry to make garments made with the down more water-repellent but also packs in a few more features. Encapsil promises fill power of 1000 cubic inches per ounce. The silicone-based treatment is also free of fluorocarbons.
