SHOT Show Preview: Magellan eXplorist GPS Line to Expand

While this week’s Consumer Electronics Show promises to offer some new products (and if you’ve been checking out the site you’ve seen CES has been loaded with stuff), those looking to go exploring will find it with Magellan’s latest eXplorist 110 Handheld GPS Device, the newest sibling to the 710 (above). The eXplorist 110, which is being officially unveiled at next week’s SHOT Show will reportedly be ready to use, right out of the box.

The rugged and waterproof unit – IPX-7 standard, will offer a 2. .2” QVGA transflective color screen, along with a SiRFstarIII GPS chipset that provides 3-5 meter accuracy. It will be pre-loaded with World Edition Map references and complete road network in North America and Western Europe, as well as major roads throughout the rest of the populated world for orientation no matter where you are.

The GPS receiver is powered by two AA batteries for up to 18 hours of outdoor adventure and a suspend mode that conserves battery life while still tracking GPS location. Users can start each adventure with a single click, record every step, and monitor their distance travelled, average speed, elevation gain and descent, and average time to find by viewing the track summary statistics. It offers back tracking via “breadcrumbs” on the map screen, as well as paperless geocaching capabilities that allows the user to download and view more than 20 unique characteristics of each cache, as well as view, search, and filter on the device.

The eXplorist 110 Handheld GPS Device (MSRP: $129.99) will be available later this year. Now if we only had it to help us navigate CES and the SHOT Show!
