Weekend Reading List (10.13.2012): Magic of Ti, Green Sports, Final Film, Running Disasters

Magic Metal

From BikeRadar: What is titanium?
Titanium is a metal that has an atomic number of 22 and its chemical element symbol is Ti – which is fitting, as many people in the bike industry often refer to titanium as ‘ti’. This metal doesn’t weigh as much as gold, but like that precious metal it’s corrosion-resistant and can be lustrous in a refined state. And unlike gold or silver, titanium is as strong as steel when properly processed.

Green Sports

From SportsTechie: Making the Business Case for Going Green In Sports – Interview with Allen Hershkowitz
In the midst of a presidential election voters are being overwhelmed with campaign ads from President Obama and Governor Romney. Both candidates are trying desperately to convey their messages to as many demographics as possible. But no matter how many demographics they appeal to they will never match the reach of the one great American equalizer: sports.

Final Farewell on Film

From SkateBoardingMag: Ian Barry’s Final Part
Ian Barry had amassed a stack of footage before he passed away and his friends put it together in this gnarly part.

Rundown

From Runner’s World: Race-Day Disasters: Don’t Let Them Happen to You!
Runners are planners. We pick races, plot strategies, and work hard for weeks–months! years!–to hit our goals. Yet too often, we fall apart on race day, hobbled by cramps, gutted by GI distress, slowed or sidelined by unforeseen demons. To help you avoid these experiences, five runners have shared their stories of race days gone bad (sometimes really bad). We then asked experts to analyze what went wrong so you don’t meet the same fate.
