Trek Rolls in Africa

TrekWisconsin-based Trek Bicycles announced that it partnered with World Bicycle Relief and will double the impact of donations made to the advocacy group for all of July. For each donation to WBR Trek will match those contributions, dollar for dollar, and together Trek and World Bicycle Relief are looking to supply 1,300 bikes to Africans in need.

Since its inception in 2005, World Bicycle Relief has put over 137,000 bicycles into the hands of people living in developing countries, most notably rural African communities lacking transportation infrastructure. The organization’s Buffalo Bikes are assembled locally and represent a life-changing asset to a person in need. A bike can quintuple a person’s carrying capacity, and quadruple the distance one can travel in an hour. To someone living in rural Africa, a bicycle can provide access to clean water, medicine, and an education. The power of mobility created by a single Buffalo Bike is said to have a positive impact on the lives of five people in a given community.
