Run in the Sun

From Men’s Health: Why You Should Move Your Workout Outdoors
Winter blues are reason enough to seek out the sun. But here’s another: People with adequate levels of vitamin D—produced when your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays—have about half the risk of developing type 1 diabetes, according to a new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

From Runner’s World: Sinead O’Connor Claims to Have World-Class Sprint Speed
“I was fast, a great sprinter: 100m in 11.3 seconds,” Irish singer Sinead O’Connor claimed in an article published last month by The Independent.

Now, normally in these situations we give speakers the benefit of the doubt, try to verify claims, etc. But life is short, so here we’re just going to come out and say it: She didn’t run that fast.

Tri on the Rise

From Bicycle Retailer: Triathlon continues upward trend
The three-day Triathlon Business International Conference, which concluded Tuesday, underscored the organization’s focus on the growth of commerce surrounding the sport. Attendance dipped about 8 percent compared with the previous year, with about 210 participants, but reflected a healthy cross section of retailers, event organizers, suppliers, media and athletes.

Helmets for Kids

From Skiing Business: Las Vegas Ski Resort Distributes Free Helmets to Kids
Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) has distributed more than 1,250 free ski and snowboard helmets to local youth through its award-winning Lids on Kids program since its launch during the 2006-2007 ski season. This year, LVSSR and partner Centennial Hills Hospital distributed 250 helmets to local youth. The program was held on five consecutive Saturdays starting on January 5, 2013 and it coincided with National Ski Area Association Safety Week and Learn to Ski/Snowboard Month.
