Abus Ready to Roll in North America

ScottishHelmetThe above helmet has a real Scottish look to it, and it features wool plaids and genuine leather – and it will look stylish for commuting. This cycling helmet is actually part of the new line coming from German lock maker Abus, which is looking to enter the North American market next year.

It could give some new options for bike commuters and casual riders.

Abus Folding Lock

We’ve seen folding bikes and even folding bike helmets, but the new Abus Bordo 6000 Ecolution is a bike lock that folds up. As with prior models from Abus, the lock can fold into a compact package that can be mounted on the bike or stashed in a pack. The lock unfolds via a series of riveted links making for a variety of locking configurations.

The Bordo line is available in a range of security levels, but the Bordo 6000 Ecolution is designed to be recycled at the end of its life. That’s an odd twist for a product, especially one that most users would want to last forever. Some reviews also note that because it is easy to break down to be recycled it could be all too easy to break when it should be protecting the bike. Continue reading Abus Folding Lock

Lock and Load

That old TV show The Avengers (not to be confused with the recent super blockbuster) started out with the introduction, “Extraordinary crimes against the people and the state have to be avenged by agents extraordinary.” This is what comes to mind when seeing the Granit Extreme 59, the latest addition to the Abus u-lock line. This is serious security but it comes at a hefty price – $279.99.

Obviously this isn’t meant for the junker you might ride to work, but for those who absolutely, positively need to leave their serious bike on the street unguarded this is truly serious protection. It is actually in the “motorcycle” category but the company clearly knows those with high-end road or mountain bikes will want to protect their bikes.

The locking mechanism is reportedly certified Sold Secure Gold. So can you really put a price on that?
