This compact bicycle light won’t exactly blaze up the trail ahead, but the Blaze does provide up to 80 lumens of red light so those behind you can’t miss you. It features a sealed SPT+ port for easy charging, and this light features user-selectable modes that allow for 12, 24 or 48 of flashing, along with 6, 12 or 24 hours of constant on. While not the most compact bike tail light we’ve seen this one will surely do the job better than most.

Blaze of Glory
We first heard about Blaze back in June of 2011. This handlebar-mounted laser cast a virtual bike in front of you to provide a signal to cars that you were in their blind spot. The system was developed by University of Brighton student Emily Brooke in the U.K. That was the last we heard of it, until now. In the nearly a year and a half that has passed Brooke has launched a company, developed a working prototype and launched a Kickstarter project to fund the creation of the first batch. XFire Aims at Creating Bike Lane
There are times when drivers simply won’t share the road and nothing short of a protected bike lane will do the trick, but there are times where the driver of a car simply didn’t know how close he/she was to a rider. We’ve seen a few systems that light the way, by projecting a visual cue to drivers, including the LightLane and Blaze, which were both handlebar mounted light systems.
Now we’ve started to hear about the XFire Bike Lane Safety Light, which places a visual barrier on each side of the bike. The system utilizes two high-visibility red lasers that project a virtual bike lane, and these are meant to be bright enough to be seen under headlights and streetlights. Blaze a Virtual Bike in the Bike Lane
Back in 2009 there was LightLane, which provided a virtual bike cast as an image just ahead of you while you rode. Now there is Blaze, a handlebar-mounted laser that projects a personal bike lane marker. Developed by University of Brighton student Emily Brooke in the U.K., her concept could do what LightLane never did – that is actually make it to critical mass.
While Ms. Brooke still has yet to bring her product to market as well, it seems like a winner to use. The battery power Blaze essentially projects a bright green laser image, which is bright enough to be seen in daylight, of a bike onto the road ahead, warning drivers that you could be in their blind spot. Brooke reportedly consulted with road safety practitioners, Brighton & Hove City Council, the Brighton & Hove Bus Company as well as psychologists who specialize in driving.
Brooke’s idea reportedly won her a place on the Entrepreneurship Program at Babson College in Massachusetts, and hopefully this would be enough to make sure that future riders don’t win the “door prize.”
Mel B Puts on the Weight
Former Spice Girl Me B is packing on the pounds. But not as you would think. While many aging rock/pop stars let themselves go, the once Scary one has become a healthy lifestyle advocate. As we previously reported Mel B is also working with video game accessory manufacturer BLAZE on a line of Fitness First licensed products.
The newest announced product is the Wii Fitness First Wrist and Ankle Weights that will let users get a little more impact on their console-based workout, while still leaving hands free to take control with the Wii-mote. The BLAZE wrist and ankle weights are designed for use with a variety of fitness games. The are made of soft, cushioned fabric, and weight approximately 520 grams, which is considered an ideal weight to add resistance without being too heavy.
The BLAZE Fitness First Mel B Wrist and Ankle Weights will be available in October.
BLAZE Gets Scary With Fitness First for Wii Based Products
Global popstar and former Spice Girl Mel B has teamed up with BLAZE and Fitness First to spice up the fitness video game market with a range of new products for the Nintendo Wii. The erstwhile Scary Spice began her relationship with Fitness First last year, when she became the not-so-scary face of National Fitness Week, and followed up with a workout DVD titled “Totally Fit.” Now she’s jumping into the video game arena with a range of products, with the first being released next month.
