Trail Recorders

Dark-Ops-Trail-CameraTrail Cameras has introduced two new outdoor rugged cameras, the Browning Strike Force and Dark Ops Trail cameras and both are small enough to be virtually undetectable by animal or human eyes.

Each of these outdoor cameras is powered by six AA batteries, while offering easy set up. These feature time, date, temperature, moon phase, and camera ID on the data strip of every image, along with trigger speeds of .67 second, recovery times of 2.1 seconds, and increased power efficiency allow the cameras to capture more than 10,000 images on a single battery charge. These provide infrared images with an auto-adjusting illumination feature that prevents overexposed images in nighttime photos and videos; while the extended illumination feature brightens the field of view and eliminates dark edges.

360 Degrees Takes Flights

360FlyThere are plenty of action cameras on the market to provide a first person view of your exploits, but EyeSee360 now has two new cameras that provide a panoramic view of the action. The first up is the 360Fly, which is a tennis-ball-sized video camera that can be mounted on a helmet or just left stationary. It captures 360 degrees horizontally and 240 degrees vertically, which is now the widest viewing angle of any camera on the market.

It can capture video at 1,500 x 1,500 at 30 frames per second, is waterproof to five meters and can record for up to two hours.

The other offering is the 360MicroFly, a 360 degree panoramic video lens that can be attached to select smartphones, and is compatible with Android and iOS apps. Both versions will be out later this year to offer 360 degrees of functionality.

Fly6 Has Your Back

Fly6Cyclists need to keep their eyes on the road, but there are times many wish they had eyes in the back of their head to watch for oncoming traffic. The Fly6 Camera and Tail-Light Combo is a bike light and more. It provides a light to alert drivers to a rider’s position, but also features a camera that can record how a driver may have responded.

The design came about after one of the inventors was shot by a slingshot by a passenger in a passing car. The designers, which are now looking to a Kickstarter campaign to help the Fly6 get off the ground so to speak, are hoping that drivers who know they are being filmed will behave more responsibly. Streaming Video

Control-StreamBefore there was GoPro there was V.I.O., which had been one of the pioneers in wearable sports cameras. The company is now looking to take the lead with a highly modular camera. The Stream HD comes in a few configurations and it can be plugged into a notebook computer via USB.

It features built-in Wi-Fi with RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) for full HD 1080p video wireless streaming. The Stream HD also features an open API so those who like to build custom applications can find ways to use the camera that V.I.O. likely never considered.

Camera Cover

There are plenty of waterproof action cameras on the market but most don’t offer the features of a DSLR. Few high-end DSLR cameras can get all wet and wild. The Outex Waterproof DSLR Covers can solve the problem.

These hermetically sealed wetsuit housings will fit almost any DSLR and lens setup, and keep the camera and rig dry up to a depth of 10 meters. This is a modular system as well so it can work with a variety of bodies, lenses and flashes and grow with a user’s set up. Video after the jump

Peak Designs Looks to Leash the Camera

Last year Peak Design introduced its Capture Camera Clip, which could attach to a belt and put the camera at the hip much like a cowboy’s holster. Now the company is quick on the draw with the Leash, a strap that both carries the camera and holds it as well. This was reportedly developed as a safety tether for the Capture – which we see as a good idea.

But then the company realized it could be even more versatile as it could offer several easily configured forms. It uses several anchors that can tie around any loop on a camera or piece of gear. It provides 60 inches of webbing that can adjust into a neck strap. This way it can be a sling, safety tether or even video stabilizer while on the go. There is also a smaller version that the company is developing called the Cuff. Both are now being developed via a Kickstarter project. Video after the jump

Golf Swing Camera

There are a seeming endless variety of wearable cameras, but when playing golf you want to keep your eyes on the ball and would rather have some way of recording your movement to know how to improve your swing. The Hammacher Schlemmer Golf Swing Recording Video Camera is such as device.

It is simple enough in that it sits on a three-foot monopod that features a turf spike, and allows for almost instant placement in the tee box or fairway without disrupting play. The actual camera on top features a wide-angle lens that can capture your entire swing when place just 10-feet way. Continue reading Golf Swing Camera

Foolish New Action Camera

With a name like Foolish you might wonder what UK-based Nilox are thinking, but apparently this could be a smart move as the company looks to introduce a durable action camera at an affordable price. It will be available for £199.95 ($320). For that price the Nilox Foolish will come with a two waterproof casings, an 8GB micro SD card, and various mounting fixings.

The Foolish will be able to record at full HD 1080p at 30fps, or at 720p at 60fps while also being able to capture still images at 8megapixels. This action camera also features a 4x digital zoom. Control of the camera is done through one button filming, with another for taking still shots. A laser pointer is included to provide the desired line of site as well, because the designers clearly wouldn’t want owners to actually do something foolish. Video after the jump

Contour Doubles Down

While Sony and JVC have entered the rugged action camera market this year, and GoPro seems to be going towards and IPO, Contour Inc. has essentially doubled-down by announced its next-generation action camera, fitting called the Contour+2. The wearable camera will be available this fall for $399.

The form factor hasn’t been changed much, but that’s because there was really nothing wrong with it in the first place. Clearly Contour knows that change for changes sake isn’t the way to go. But while it may look the same this time around it offers a new shooting mode of 120 frames per second in 480p resolution. This isn’t close to HD by that ultra-high frame rate will be ideal for anyone who looks to do a “super slow motion” cut. The company has promised the “highest quality action video, ever.” Seeing will surely be believing. Video after the jump

Take the XShot

The various action cameras are great for providing a first-person perspective to a long ride or other activity, but what if you want to be the star of your own movie? XShot has you covered and ready for your close up with the XShot Pro Camera Extender.

Of course to do this you need to be your own cameraman but it can also allow for shots from angles that are simply impossible with a helmet-mounted or handle-bar mounted camera. While the original extender was released in 2010, at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Show the company offered a peek at its next XShot Pro Camera Extender, which can stand up just about anything you’d care to try it with. Just be sure to keep your eyes on the path. Video after the jump

Armor Fit For a Hero

A knight is just one type of potential hero who suited up in armor, just as many of our brave soldiers today wear a type of armor. But even for a hero not heading into battle armor can come in handy. Marc Ellis saw the need for armor for a different kind of hero, namely the GoPro HD Hero 2 action camera.

Ellis wasn’t satisfied with what on the market and produced his own housing made of aluminum and stainless steel. It is reportedly waterproof to 300 feet – compared to GoPro’s own case which can handle 200 feet. The case also features a quartz lens port, and includes nine mounting points, so it ups the ante from the official cases in both counts. The Hero Armor is currently in development and Ellis is raising money on Kickstater. Video after the jump

JVC Introduces Shockproof Action Camera

Last week we noted that Sony was diving into the rugged camcorder space, and now JVC has announced the GC-XA1 ADIXXION, a pocket sized camera the is just .28 pounds and is freeze-proof, dustproof and waterproof to five meters (16.4 feet), while being shockproof to two meters (6.5 feet).
