Fat Tire Camo

Cogburn-CB4-Real-Tree-camo-Despite the popularity of the original Netflix series Orange is the New Black, we think that camo is the new black – at least in the world of fitness and more specifically cycling. We’ve seen bike seats, bags, jerseys and now even a camouflage fatbike – which is fitting as it can almost blend into the woods.

At the recent Frostbite Fat Tire bike summit Cogburn unveiled a special version of its CB4 fat tire bike, which will be available with Real Tree APS camo with winter snow. It isn’t like the snow is looking to leave anytime soon, so now you can get this bike and match the terrain.

Camo Cooler

Nikon-Coolpix-AW120-Camo-CaLast year Nikon introduced the AW110 Camo Camera, which we dubbed Cool Camo. Now the company has introduced the follow-up – the Nikon Coolpix AW120 Camo Camera, which features a 16-megapixel sensor, built-in Wi-Fi, GPS and can shoot video at Full HD 1080p.

It is waterproof, shock-proof and freeze-proof and once again features a camo pattern to blend in the surroundings. It might go with some of the latest camouflage products we’ve seen.

Change of Color

ColorPhaseThe military has long looked to develop superior camouflage, but typically the only method of changing the color was to have it be two sided – thus summer green on one side with the browns and oranges on the other. This year Cabela’s worked to develop ColorPhase, which the company noted is the world’s first camouflage clothing to be printed with rapid-change, temperature-activated dye.

What this means is that when it is warm outside the fabric remains mostly green, but as the temperature drops below about 65ºF (18ºC) it starts to change to brown. ColorPhase isn’t limited to just the jacket and also includes caps, gloves, pants and shirts. Continue reading Change of Color

Survival Cover

Survivor-in-Mossy-Oak-CamoGriffin Technology has partnered with Mossy Oak to create a new line of covers for the iPad and iPhone. These are the latest editions to the ultra-rugged Survivor line from Griffin and feature Mossy Oak’s camouflage. The cases are built to military standards, protecting devices from drops, wind-blown rain, vibration, and more, and the camo patterns include Mossy Oak Treestand, Pink Break-Up, Shadow Glass, Winter Break-Up and Obsession.

The Survivor cases for iPhone are designed to meet or exceed US Department of Defense Standards and come standard with a belt clip.

Chances are these will help the devices blend in when out in the woods, but might just stand out when buried on your desk.

Camo Chrome

Camo-ChromeBag maker Chrome continues to come up with innovative products. The company offered some upcycled bags made of vintage Warsaw Pact camo sleeping covers, and now it is keeping the camouflage theme going with its new reflective camo bags that reflect light from 100 feet away. The bags feature traditional camo, urban camo and even digital camo – and while these patterns are usually used to help the wearer/user blend in, these allow for the wear/user to stand out, especially at night.

These American made bags are available in three styles, but in limited quantities.

Kryptek Camouflage

Camouflage is something that many people probably don’t think much about, except to note that it is used by military forces around the world to help the wearer blend in. It also has used for hunters, and anyone who doesn’t want to be so easily seen. The first true “camouflage” was arguably just sand colored clothing used by the British military in India in the 1840s and 1850s – and this took its name from the Persian word for sand, which just happens to be “khaki.” Today we think of khakis as a comfortable type of pants, or a color. Likewise, camouflage clothing has become a bit of a fashion statement, while still serving a purpose.

And camouflage has also gone digital, with the current U.S. military utilizing patterns that are more random and thus blend in more with the environment. Rather than just stopping with what it has, the U.S. military is reportedly evaluating this, and Krypek Outdoor apparel has been named a finalist in the process to select new U.S. military camouflage patterns. While we won’t likely see this in army/navy stores for a while, these patterns could be the next fashion wave in a few years – and will likely be embraced by hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.
