Danish Bicycle Super Highway

While it is well known that Amsterdam is a bicycle friendly city and that the Dutch love their two wheeled machines, great strides are being made by their Danish cousins. Copenhagen, another bike friendly city, has opened the proclaimed bicycle superhighway network this month. Originally intended with 13 routes, there are now 26 in total in the works, with 186.4 miles of dedicated paths for commuters and leisure riders. Continue reading

Meet Copenhagen’s New Waste Treatment Plant and Ski Slope

A new waste-to-energy plant on the outskirts of Copenhagen will double as a recreational ski area. Design firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) won the design competition for client Amagerforbraending to create a waste-to-energy treatment plant on the crossroads between a residential neighborhood and an industrial zone. Another criteria for the building is to serve as a recreational area.
