Paying It Forward

Silvana-Lima

From Stuff: Champ sold surfboard to cover costs
Silvana Lima sold her surfboard to fund her trip to Taranaki. Yesterday it paid off for the Brazilian surfer, who defeated Australian Laura Enever in the final of the ASP 6 Star Port Taranaki Pro women’s qualifying series event at Fitzroy Beach. Handle on Things

HandlebandThere is so much stuff to bring while cycling and even with three pockets in the jersey there is also more to carry. The Handleband could solve that problem as this universal bike mount can hold phones and even open bottles post-ride. The Handleband is now being developed by Daniel Haarburger of Boulder, Colorado via a Kickstarter project.

This simple band attaches easily to a bike and removes just as easily. It should work with almost any handset and any bike. And as noted the metal latch doubles as a bottle opener! Video after the jump

3D Printed Garmin Cycle Mount

Yesterday we noted that Garmin has released its own cycle mount for its Edge line of bicycle computers. But if you don’t care for the Garmin official mount, or can’t find it – or the Bar Fly, K-Edge, 3T or Quarg mounts – you could also look to RaceWare Direct and have your own colorful mount printed! That’s right, RaceWare is using the latest in 3D printer technology to run off the mounts and in a selection of colors.

The mounts are nylon based and the benefit of these custom 3D printed mounts it that these can be made to the exact diameter of your handbars!

While it is one thing to take in the scenery and enjoy the ride sometimes a little music will make that climb or just the miles on the road go by a little quicker. Headphones – especially in-ear headphones or earbuds – can block the outside world, and while that might seem a good idea in fact it really isn’t. Continue reading Bike Speakers Bring the Noise

Raising the Wooden Bar

Wood remains a viable building material for many things. Who wouldn’t want hardwood floors for example, or a nice wood deck for a sunny afternoon? On the fitness side of things we’ve seen wooden bicycles, but F&Y Les Classiques from Montreal have taken this a step further with hardwood handlebars.

Made of Morado, Wenge and Ash and bolstered with aluminum or brass hardware these have a lot more style than most aluminum or even carbon fiber handlebars. Obviously these are more fitting on a cruiser than say a performance road bike, but if you have special vintage bike that needs new handlebars these should fit the bill nicely.

BioLogic Makes Android Bike Mount

When cycling, I use the Strava app on my Android phone as a cycling computer. This is great to track distance, speed, and even where I bike. However it doesn’t help me so much when my phone is in my back pocket and I can’t access that information. Continue reading BioLogic Makes Android Bike Mount
