Freedom Ride

FreeRiderThe FreeRider Pannier for Urban Bike Commuting are designed to allow for stress free rides to work. The idea is to take the heavy bag off the back and allow for a more comfortable – and potentially less stressful – commute. The pack, which is being brought to market via a Kickstarter campaign, can hold a backpack, messenger bag or even as the designers suggest a 12-pack of beer.

The FreeRider will be manufactured at Green Guru’s production facility in Boulder, Colorado. Video after the jump

Personal Property

When riding to work you probably take your personal items with you, and while you could wear a shoulder bag Property Of… (that’s the company’s name) offers the Tommy Pannier Bag. This dual use bag can serve as both a bike pannier for the ride to work and then do double duty as a shoulder bag.

It features a wax coated cotton outer fabric, weatherproof tarp inner splash facing and heavy YKK nylon zipper to ensure that your property is protected. If those personal items include a laptop it is further protected with a padded pocket, while cotton straps will help secure this pack to the bike. This isn’t Tommy’s property but Tommy can be a Property Of… you.

Honey Badger Two Packs in One

The composite pack known as Honey Badger from Sling Fin is like two packs in one. The super-tough backpack can be used for hiking, climbing and just about any outdoor activity. It is waterproof and rugged. Made of abrasion-resistant composts it features integrated tie downs, and climbing rope to ensure that all the gear stays put, and because it has a semi-rigid design it doesn’t need the extra suspension system – thus reducing weight as well. Detour For Cyclists

Click image for a closer look

There could be a new Detour for cyclists, but not the kind you might think. Actually Detour is a Seattle-based company that makes seat bags, panniers and cycling bags, and as expected from the Pacific Northwest these are all designed to stand up to wet weather.

A new product that we heard about was the Coffee Bag – fitting as again the company is from Seattle. But it isn’t for the morning cup of the brown stuff. Instead it is a waterproof bag that features a two-point attachment system so it can be mounted behind a seat or on the top tube. It offers 100cubic inches of storage but can also be tucked into a water bottle cage if necessary.

Our friends at BikeRadar.com noted that there will be “five blends” available, including the : California, The Highway 1 blend; Washington, The Evergreen blend; Minnesota, The 10,000 lake blend; Maine, The Lighthouse blend; and Colorado, The Mile High blend. The bags will be available for $24 as part of the 2012 line – and given the price of gourmet coffee this might be a steal!
