Blades to Cut Through Snow

FATbladesRollerblades pretty much revolutionized the concept of roller skates, and now FATblades are looking to take the skating to the snow. These mini-skis, which can be worn with traditional snowboard boots are essentially a combination of skates, skis and snowboards for the feet. The designers, which are now looking to a Kickstarter campaign to bring the FATblades to the masses, say these can be used in all sorts of conditions including ice, soft snow and even heavy powder. Reinventing the Wheels

AeYOIntroduced at the ISPO Munich show last month the AeYO looks to reinvent not so much the wheel, but perhaps the way wheels can be used. It is part bicycle, part skates and part scooter. While the feet are placed in in-line skates, it thus allows the legs to move freely and provide forward acceleration but at the same time the handle and front wheels keep the feet stable so there is little chance of falling.

While it again won’t reinvent the wheel it could create a new way to get rolling. Continue reading Reinventing the Wheels

Mako or Breako

Easton-MakoThere are skates for just skating around and then there are the Easton Mako Skate, which for hockey is something that help the player make it. It features an active guard that allows for more natural movement, with asymmetrical pattern that allows the skates to stay in line with direction of travel to generation more speed and power. These also offer an aggressive blade pitch to create more force on the ice. And by that we don’t think Easton means of the Hanson Brother’s variety . Video after the jump

Kickstarted Electric Skates

We’ve heard about quite a few interesting Kickstarter projects, but the spnKiX could give skaters a kickstart and a lot more. Essentially these are motorized, battery-powered shoes that can allow the wearer to travel up to speeds of 10mph.

While not technically skates, and thus not exactly fitness products, these do offer a new method of making short trips as the motorized shoes can travel some two to three miles.
