Swing and Tilt

YakimaGetting a bike to the trails shouldn’t be a headache, and the new Yakima 2014 line of hitch-mast bike racks make it a bit less of a headache. This includes the FullSwing and the FullTilt.

Available beginning in the New Year these models feature a function that puts all controls for the arm, fold, and mast tilt on top of the unit, eliminating the need for the user to bend down. The hitch pin also automatically engages when inserting the mast into the vehicle hitch, eliminating the need to reach under the vehicle. These also include ratcheting ZipStrips to attach the bikes, instead of the more common rubber straps. The FullSwing and FullTilt come pre-assembled and include a full SKS (“Same Key System”) lock package that locks the bikes to the rack and the rack to the vehicle.

The FullSwing, which carries four bikes and swings away from the vehicle laterally, will retail for $499, while the FullTilt tilts back (hence the name), away from the vehicle, and it offers four- or five-bike capacity. The four-bike FullTilt will retail for $399; while the five-bike model retails for $429.

Both models even have integrated bottle openers so you can enjoy a beverage at the end of the ride – but before you drive home.

Yakima Trailer Brings the Gear

So let’s say you are looking to head out this summer and want to do some biking, but also some kayaking and you need to bring all the gear involved? Well, most cars can only carry so much stuff. A trailer can come in real handy if you have a lot of gear.

The Yakima Gear Trailer is one that offers capacity for bikes, boats and other gear. From the look of it however you’d question if it can carry anything as it is really just two wheels on an aluminum chassis. However, this system is actually ideal because it is customizable and adaptable. It offers rack-mounting bars so it can hold four bikes and a large gear box in the middle – or a bike, a gear box and a kayak. In other words it isn’t a system you need to adapt to as it is customizable to your needs. Continue reading Yakima Trailer Brings the Gear

Interbike 2011: Mini-Velodrome To Be Installed at Sands Expo and Convention Center

Fixie riders will get to take to the track at the upcoming Interbike, as Portland Design Works will be rolling in the Circulus, a 132-foot circumference, 45-degree wooden mini-velodrome. This track will be installed in the Sands Expo and Convention Center, and is being sponsored by Paved magazine, Yakima, All-City Cycles and Portland Design Works. It will be the site for multiple events during the Interbike Expo in Las Vegas, from September 14-16.

Show attendees will get to take to the track to ride All-City Cycles and even compete in events for the first and second days of Interbike.

“Circulus will add something completely new and unique to this year’s show,” said Interbike Brand and Communications Director Rich Kelly. “We’re placing a big emphasis on urban cycling and the brands that support it and having Circulus there will be a big draw for that segment of the market. And, of course, I can’t wait to take a spin on it myself.”
