Interbike 2011: Competition Heads Up With Mobile Challenge

Interbike is less than two weeks away, and attendees will have a bit of extra incentive to bring their A game. Last week Interbike announced it has a new mobile app that will help attendees interact and stay connected with the industry during next month’s trade show.

Now, in partnership with Stravea, Interbike will add a little friendly competition to the mix during the OutDoor Demo event. Any rider attending the trade show’s OutDoor Demo will be able to visit Strava.com and create a free account to take part in the Strava OutDoor Demo Challenge, where riders can track performances of one another. The app is free for download to iPhone and Android devices.

“Strava has been creating a sense of camaraderie and upping the game for cyclists all over the world, so we’re looking forward to showing the bike industry and its influencers the power and capabilities of ‘social fitness’ first hand,” said Strava CEO Michael Horvath.

Outdoor Demo participants can swing by the Strava Ride Upload Area, near OutDoor Demo registration, to view the Challenge segments, see more details of their performance and check the real-time leaderboards.

Strava, an online app for avid cyclists to track their rides, compare their performances
with friends and compete online, has ridden and mapped the well known trails in Bootleg Canyon and the Tour de Lake Mead course.

Of these popular trails, four segments have been identified as special sections on Strava.com. OutDoor Demo attendees who download and use Strava on their iPhone, Android phone, or track their activity using a Garmin device, will be able to upload their rides to Strava.com throughout the event, see where they stack up and compete against their industry counterparts to earn prizes, furnished by Strava.

“Working with Strava adds another great interactive element to OutDoor Demo,” said Pat Hus, Interbike managing director. “Besides creating some bragging rights opportunities for attendees, Strava is a great tool for sharing and spreading cycling’s fitness message. We’re looking forward to showcasing it at the show.”

KineticShift will have to be part of this.
