Protects From Sun and Sharks

Shark-RepllentBoatsToGo.com has just released a new line of protective beach clothing that is designed to provide “significant UV protection” and will help keep the wearer cooler in the hot sun. In addition this revolutionary line of clothing can help reduce the chances of be attacked by sharks – and by that we assume they mean the variety that swims in the ocean to that John Williams “dun dun” music and not the kind that play poker in a seaside bar.

As for the sun the clothing offers protection of up to 50SPF while the Shark Repellent Rash Guard features a visual design that was modeled after the color scheme of the highly venomous Lion Fish, which is not something sharks are interested in eating. According to the makers this significantly reduces the risk of the wearer being the victim of a shark attack in instances where the shark mistakes them for one of its prey. Summer is here and now is the time to get wet and wild. And Eliot Germanovsky of BoatsToGo talked with us about the new innovations in practical boats that can be folded, inflated and ready for the water. Best of all these boats are compact enough that they can be easily transported and stored when not in use. Continue reading Sunday Q&A: Eliot Germanovsky Talks New Boating Technology

BoatsToGo Paddle Boad Goes to Pieces

Going to pieces isn’t usually a good thing, but BoatsToGo announced a new Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) that will go to pieces in a good way – namely for transport and storage. That’s because SUPs are a lot of fun in the water but less fun to get to the water, and no fun at all to store when not in use. BoatsToGo has solved this problem with a foldable boat that breaks down into three equal pieces.

The concept sounds similar to the Origami Paddler that we profiled last month, but has the advantage of being carried in a single pack or being broken down and fit into snug places in a car or garage. Because the bags can be separated the pieces can be tucked away under beds or in closest. The new Tri-sect boards comes with a carrying case, removable fine, and the tools to go from pieces to board in no time. Video after the jump

Blow Up Boat

When things blow up they often go “ka-bomb,” but when the BoatsToGo gets blown up (as in inflated) it becomes a KaBoat. We’re not sure if we’re the only ones that appreciate that joke, but it does describe this crossover that is somewhere between a full-fledged boat and a kayak.

It features a slim hull design that was reportedly modeled after narrow Asian Dragon boats, and this sleek profile allows the KaBoat to glide effortlessly over water at speeds faster than traditional boats, while still providing space for an outboard motor and supplies. As a result the boat travels at faster speeds due to less water resistance, and uses less energy to be propelled in the water as well. But what really turns our heads is that this boat is a lot easier to get in and out of the water.

The KaBoats is available in 12-foot, 14-foot, 16-foot and even an oversized 16-foot version, with prices ranging from $499 to $849. So whether it is half-kayak or half-boat we don’t think this one blows in any way!
