World’s Greatest!

Timbuk-2How do you celebrate a silver anniversary? By proclaiming you’re the world’s greatest. That is what Timbuk2 is doing this month as it celebrates its 25th anniversary with the release of an update to its Classic Messenger Bag. To trump a classic it went with “World’s Greatest Messenger Bag.”

It is 25 percent lighter than the classic, and features Cordura 940D Endurance Nylon, which provides higher tear strength and is also water repellent. This bag also offers a double-loop cam buckle offers easy fit adjustment while eliminating excess webbing, an adjustable shoulder strap with a permanent air mesh strap pad adds comfort and new corner flaps keep out water. The new bag also has a low profile top grab handle.

It takes a lot to be the greatest but Timbuk2 went all out with this one.

Can’t be Defied

Ultimate-Gym-BagLiving up to a name like “The Ultimate Gym Bag” might not be easy, but this bag from Defy features 500 Denier ballistic strength Cordura fabric, 1.9 ounce coated ripstop Nylon fabric and offers a 2-inch flat nylon webbing handle. It doesn’t come with lots of pockets but the camo material says it is read for adventure. This bag might be overkill for a trip to the gym but it is probably the last bag you’ll never need for sweaty socks and dirty underwear.

Holiday Gift Idea: Stylish Use of Camo

The Jack Spade Swedish M90 Camo Bag has a military sounding name and look, and it is made of rugged Cordura, features the Swedish Army’s splinter camouflage pattern and offers a reinforced bottom to protect your gear. While it can bring your laptop and files to work, this is the briefcase that you’d want to take to a warzone!

Outdoor Gear Goes Space Age with Quasar Series

The new Quasar backpack line from Terra Nova Equipment is sturdy and light. The series includes three packs: 30, 40, and 55 liters that weigh in at about 14 ounces. Terra Nova Equipment uses an “Ultra Fabric” made from a crinkly polyethylene material used in yacht sails.

High-wear reinforcement panels are constructed with a cordura fabric and bar-tack points are stitched with Dyneema thread, which is a thermoplastic polyethylene strand with a strength ratio stronger than steel.

A Pack Fit for a King or Queen

A backpack that is can carry everything usually weighs a bit itself, but ironically Granite Gear’s upcoming Crown 60 doesn’t feel like a ton of granite on the back. In fact the soon-to-be-released pack weighs just 2.2 pounds and yet can hold up to 60 liters of gear instead.

The Crown 60 is made of water-resistant sil-nylon Cordura, while straps and buckles are scaled down to further save on the weight, but still features a contoured back panel for added comfort. This panel also can do double duty as a camp pad, thus making for one less thing to bring along. The Bard may have written “heavy hangs the head that wears the crown,” but in this case the Crown 60 doesn’t hang heavy on the back.
