GoPro App’s it Up

Rugged camera maker GoPro announced this week that it has released an app for its HERO3 cameras. It allows users to control the action camera’s settings and features, while offering a live preview to help make framing of that perfect shot all the easier. The app will work with an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet, and is compatible with the HD HERO2 camera with Wi-Fi BacPac or the HERO3 with product software update.

The app even allows access of GoPro’s photo and video of the day. GoPro go! Video after the jump

GoPro Threes Times the Hero

This week GoPro announced the release of its new HD HERO3 camera, which will be available in white, silver and black. But most impressively the new edition of cameras has been reduced in size whilst adding new features such as built-in Wi-Fi. The new line of GoPros don’t just deliver high definition video, as these support 4K and 2.7K video resolution so those who dare to film their exploits will soon be able to see it in ultra high resolution! BoomPro Puts Wearer in the Action

As we’ve noted action cameras such as the GoPro are great for providing a way of sharing your experience on video. But what is missing is the ability for you to be in those shots. We’ve seen some devices, such as the XShot Pro Camera Extender as a long handle for users to hold to get into the shot, but this is hardly particle for those on bicycles or motorcycles.

Dirt bike enthusiast and mechanical engineer Daniel Madsen opted to create another way to get in the shot with the BoomPro, a helmet mounted pole extender. The rod is designed to be flexible so that it can adapt to the curvature of the wearer’s helmet. Video after the jump

Armor Fit For a Hero

A knight is just one type of potential hero who suited up in armor, just as many of our brave soldiers today wear a type of armor. But even for a hero not heading into battle armor can come in handy. Marc Ellis saw the need for armor for a different kind of hero, namely the GoPro HD Hero 2 action camera.

Ellis wasn’t satisfied with what on the market and produced his own housing made of aluminum and stainless steel. It is reportedly waterproof to 300 feet – compared to GoPro’s own case which can handle 200 feet. The case also features a quartz lens port, and includes nine mounting points, so it ups the ante from the official cases in both counts. The Hero Armor is currently in development and Ellis is raising money on Kickstater. Video after the jump

GoPro Goes to the App

Capturing the moment of triumph on video is easier than ever thanks to numerous wearable cameras, and this year the industry leader GoPro looks to maintain that lead by offering an iPhone/Android app that is compatible with the Wi-Fi BackPac, so users can control up to 50 Hero2 camera from a handset! This could allow large organizers in bike tours to capture action from multiple angles, or let race organizers in a variety of sports record footage from around the course without the need of multiple cameramen.

The app will allows users to view recorded footage, but the next step coming from the app will be the option to stream live video to a smartphone. The app will reportedly be free while the Wi-Fi kit is just $99.

Last week GoPro released its new Dive Housing for its HD cameras, and it didn’t take long for some users to post videos – such as the above one that shows Italian skydiver, BASE jumper, wing suit flyer and international model Roberta Mancino along pro surfer and world renowned free diver Mark Healy sharing a moment with sharks!

The video above was shot  in the Bahamas with the new Dive Housing from GoPro.

Metal Grip Solid

The GoPro camera maybe ready to go anywhere – and for those who really push things that could be straight off the bike should the plastic handlebar mount fail. Stepping up to this concern is K-Edge of Boise, Idaho. We’ve seen some of the company’s other products and its line of GO BIG Mount mounts, designed specifically for the GoPro cameras are what we’d call the real deal.

The company offers both handle bar and seat mounts, with prices ranging from $20 to $60. K-Edge even offers a warranty that offers to replace a mount should a rider crash and break one – company founder has reportedly said he’d love to see the video in which said accident occurred! GoPro HERO HD Covers Up

Super heroes tend to put on a “disguise” if you will, a cap, a mask or some other sort of cover to hide their identity, and in some cases even provide a little protection. Now another HERO is getting the covered up treatment, and this time it’s in HD. The GoPro HERO HD, which is that camera that can mount to a helmet or handle bar and capture those moments of triumphs (and hoping no one’s final moments trying something truly dare devil worthy), now has the new Hooded Silicone Cover that protects the housing from scratches and impacts, but also helps with battery life in cold conditions.

The cover, which is available in a variety of bright colors, can stretch over HERO HD, while leaving the lens and LCD screen unobstructed. It is available now for $29.99 with opening for LCD screen; or $19.99 for those without the LCD option. Continue reading GoPro HERO HD Covers Up
