Put on the Brakes

MiniBrakeYounger riders can’t always be seen in traffic and they might not always see what is coming at them. Even on bike paths parents often need to tell their children to slow down or stop. Now the MiniBrake, which was designed by a team of inventors in Hungry puts the brakes on the kid’s bike.

This is an easy to attach braking unit that is being developed through an Indiegogo funding campaign, and the idea is that it lets parents control the brakes and stop a child’s bike remotely. It can also be automatically activated should a child be more than 50 meters away. Continue reading Put on the Brakes

Mountains to Climb

Climb-UpWe never really expected the mountain to come to Mohammed; hence Mohammed had to go to the mountain. After all mountains go to no man – or can they? A German company is looking to build artificial climbing structures that are much more than just a climbing wall.

Those walls in the gyms looking nothing like the terrain found in nature so Climb Up!-Kletterwelt is now creating a man-made mountain that eliminates the needs for colored holds. Instead it offers crevices, ledges and protrusions that climbers can expect to find in the real world. Unlike the real world however the Climb Up mountains will feature integrated safety cables bolted to the climbing surfaces that can be used with a ferrata clip harness so there is no need for a belayer.

CLIMB UP! – Kletterwelt is looking to build the mountains as part of a park near Berlin, and recently it launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to raise the mountain. Continue reading Mountains to Climb

Watch and Learn

GYMWATCHThere are plenty of cardio-focused fitness trackers on the market, but a heart rate monitor and calorie counter only goes so far at the gym. This is where the GYMWATCH comes in. It is a new fitness tracker, which is being developed through an Indiegogo campaign to measure strength and motion. It is thus aimed at those who hit the gym to gain weight and mass instead of losing it. The GYMWATCH is worn on an armband and features a built-in accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer to record movement and strength during a workout.

It is paired with a smartphone so users can monitor the process – but of course not phone it in! Video after the jump

All Oar Board

Oar-BoardIf you have a stand up paddleboard and would prefer to do some sitting you are in luck. The Oar Board allows for quick conversion of a board into a single scull rowing boat. The Whitehall Rowing & Sail company of Victoria, BC have launched an Indiegogo project. It can be attached to a paddleboard in just five minutes and the polymer and marine-grade powder-coated aluminum should be ready for the water. Video after the jump

Light Time

SunSpriteThis long winter has kept many indoors and that means out of the sun. That might not sound so bad, but getting some of the sun’s rays can actually help improve well being. Too much sun and you can burn, even in the winter, but not enough and you might feel downright blue.

So how do you know if you’re getting of the good UV rays? SunSprite is the world’s first wearable device that can track daily light and sun exposure. It can be paired with a smartphone and help users reach personalized goals to get just the right amount of sun to support a healthy lifestyle.

SunSprite, which is now being developed via an Indiegogo crowd funding project, is also unique in wearables in that it tracks the sun’s light and does so through solar power! Video after the jump

The Speed Play

Speed-Up-BagIf you commute by bike there is only so much stuff you can stuff in a bag. The Speed Up Bag could provide a bit more storage, but unlike other bags this one is mounted to the bike. Slovenian inventor Joze Petkovsek also claims that this is the most aerodynamic cycling bag around.

It is designed to mount on the handlebars and it provides less air resistance to the rider, less drag coefficient than standard bags and that all means higher cycling speeds. This bag is also waterproof so the contents inside can stay draw during the ride. The developers are looking to an Indiegogo campaign to get the Speed Up Bag up to speed and ready for launch. Made in America: Tie One On

KhordzIf you’re going to tie one on better to tie it on with the Khordz Hand Tied Mug, a multi-purpose line of drinkware. These customizable mugs are designed to replace single-use cups and are insulated with 25 feet of hand tied paracord, which is used as the sleeve and handle. It is suitable for a multitude of tasks; from use as a snare trap to hanging a hammock.

The 16 ounce food-grade, heat-resistant glass jar is designed to be easy to clean. The mugs are made in America, and the entire package is assembled here as well. The designers are looking to Indiegogo to snare some interest and mass produce the Khordz Hand Tied Mugs.

The World of Atlas

AtlasThe developers of the Atlas are looking to Indiegogo to bring out what they believe is the first fitness tracker that tracks all aspects of a workout. It can identify your exercise, count reps, calculate the calories you burn and even evaluate your form. The developers noted on the Indiegogo site that “Atlas is packed with a suite of inertial sensors, similar to those used in smartphones. The Atlas sensors see your movement in a 3D trajectory and identify the specific motion fingerprint of each exercise you’re doing. Atlas then sifts through a sea of data and picks out the pearls that are valuable to you.”

During and following workouts it can highlight the muscle groups you’ve focused on, and then suggest where to go next. Video after the jump

Saddle Up

MorgawRiding a bike shouldn’t be in a pain in the you know what, but for many it is just that literally. A cushier seat doesn’t always help, but the Mograw shock-absorbing saddle could and should do the trick. It takes the concept of a suspension seatpost but utilizes elastomer inserts that sit between the rails and the saddle. This can absorb those bumps in the road and make for a softer ride.

Designers Martin Moravcik and Slawek Gawlik are now looking to bring out the Mograw via an Indiegogo project. Video after the jump

Don’t Pin it On

RaceDotsIf it is race day then chances are you either brought or were handed some safety pins to attach your number. It is hard to believe that in the 21st century that racers in so many sports are using what is basically 19th century technology to secure the numbers to the clothing. Not only is there a risk of injury if the pin opens, but it isn’t good for the jersey or shirt.

The folks at RaceDots have another solution, small magnets that can hold a race number in place. With just three weeks to go the innovators of this one are in a race to secure funding via an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign. Video after the jump

Life Saver in a Disc

LifeDiscSometimes good ideas don’t take flight, such is the case of the LifeDisc – a Frisbee-shaped gizmo that wasn’t about a game. Actually, this was devised to be a survival pack that just happened to be in the shape of a disc.

It was designed to hold everything you might need to survive in the wilds, but we’re not sure why it needed to be in a disc? Perhaps that why this Indiegogo project didn’t take off and go. Whether the LifeDisc sees new life isn’t clear, but the designers can always toss it around with some other ideas we’re sure. Video after the jump
