Take a New Seat

MORGAWWinning an International Bicycle Design Competition Award is no small honor, so how are the designers of the MORGAW following up? By launching an Indiegogo project to bring the saddle to market. It promises real active comfort, as the materials allow light movement, making it more responsive to the rider’s body movement. Made in America: Veteran Bicycle

Veteran-BicycleDavid Lewis has launched an Indiegogo project with the goal to get an American made bicycle company off the ground. This disabled U.S. Army veteran served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He noted that hassle with building bikes in China and is looking to make Made in America mean something again.

To that end he’s looking to raise money, not just to start the project but to use the funding to buy other American made equipment. Those investing $10 will get his thanks, and those investing $2,500 or more will get a handmade, veteran made complete bicycle!

We wish Lewis the best of luck with this project.

This Cricket Won’t Chirp

CricketThe sound of a cricket at night can be either soothing – if the insect happens to be outside and you’re in the country – but can be annoying when it might be in your house or apartment. The latter is likely what the developers of the Cricket bike alarm had in mind. However, instead of it making a chirp the alarm will alert bike owners.

As the developers noted, “as someone as much as touches your bikes, you’ll get an instant (as in one tenth of a second instant) notification in your smart phone.” That is one smart Cricket. It is now in development via an Indiegogo project. Video after the jump

Mighty Morphing Helmet

MORPHERA helmet is a good thing to have when riding the mean streets, but as we’ve found many opt not to don one on their heads because it can be a pain to have to carry it around the whole day. We’ve seen some folding helmets already, but the Morpher truly knows when to fold it.

This helmet is now being designed via an Indiegogo project, and unlike other designs this one folds completely flat. The prototypes have already passed European testing standards and British designer Jeff Woolf is looking to get authorities in Australia and the U.S. on board as well. This could be the beginning of one mighty, morphing bike helmet. Video after the jump

Like a Guardian Angel

AngelGuardian angels supposedly watch over us, but while these heaven sent angels might help guide the way they don’t actually monitor our fitness so much. That is where the open source sensor from Israel comes in. The Angel is designed to help monitor fitness and much more. It can track pulse, temperature, activity and even blood oxygen levels.

It can send this data to a smartphone or laptop and even fitness equipment. It features an open API so it can be a workout tracker, fertility calendar, sleep monitor and even a tele-nanny. This wearable fitness device could also be used as a golf trainer to monitor strokes while watching for irregular heart rate that could lead to a stroke!

The developers have already reached their Indiegogo funding goals and now look to deliver the Angel in April of next year. Video after the jump

ParaShoot 2.1Takes Aim

ParaShootWhile there are a number of sport cameras on the market, ParaShoot 2.1 – which is being developed via an Indiegogo project – is a wireless HD camera that could be worn or used anywhere. Footage captured on this one could be shared wirelessly yet securely via the cloud. This camera is small enough that it fits in the palm of your hand (as shown above)( and weighs less than two ounces.

It can record 720 HD video at 30fps, and offers a 100 degree wide angle view. It runs on a 700mAh Li-ion battery and includes a built-in microphone. It isn’t being rolled out to be the most durable or high resolution camera but it is there to capture all those other moments in life. Video after the jump

Put a Finger on It

gunboxHaving a firearm requires responsibility to ensure that it is locked and secure. The Gun Box, which was designed by Ryan Hyde, doesn’t require a key or combination but rather only lets the authorized user access it via a RFID-equipped bracelet or fingerprint scanner. Hyde is currently looking to raise money to bring the Gun Box to retail via an Indiegogo campaign.

The safe’s shell is made from die-cast aluminum that will ensure the wrong person can’t access the firearm inside, whilst the locking mechanism utilizes motorized servos to prevent someone from prying it open.

This box can be programmed for multiple users, plus it features an accelerometer and will send an alert to your smartphone if it’s moved or tampered with, while it can even be monitored via GPS. It isn’t exactly cheap at nearly $400, but can you really put a price on safety and security? Continue reading Put a Finger on It

Drink Fit

BluFit Throughout the day how much effort to you make to track your hydration? While calories and even what you ate might be counted, what you drink often isn’t. However, the BluFit could change all that. It is an intelligent water bottle that works in synchronization with a smartphone will help consumers maintain optimum levels of hydration. Through the smart bottle and app, BluFit will determine how much water you need, how much you have consumed and will alert you when it’s time to hydrate. Video after the jump

Track it to You

Sensoria-Smart-SockWe’ve seen some smart looking socks, but the Sensoria Fitness Smart Socks are downright brilliant. These were developed by Washington-based Heapsylon and feature electronic magnetic anklet that tracks activity and communicates data to external devices such as a smart phone. The app meanwhile works as a virtual coach, whilst the activity tracker analyzes where runners land on their feet, how they stride, and can even help them reach their goals while lessening injuries.

The makers of the socks are looking to get off and running through and Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign – which as of this week they’ve already met. Apparently a lot of people think Smart Socks are a “smart” idea. Video after the jump

Light On (When You Need It)

Rydon-Pixio-Bicycling-LightHaving a bike light is only good if it works, because otherwise it is just extra weight. The Rydon Pixo Bicycle Light is designed to always work. The special batteries are designed to hold 75 hours worth of light, and moreover feature an integrated solar panel that converts every beam of sunlight into energy and stores this to the batteries.

The designers claim that in just five days of sun the battery can be fully charged for years of use. So just riding the bike in the day ensures that you’ll have light at night. The developers are now looking to Indiegogo to put this one in the spotlight and raise funds to bring it out in the bright of day. Video after the jump

Put a Tracker On It

Sensoria-FitnessThere is the saying, “put a sock in it,” but the Sensoria Fitness Smart Sock Tracker lets you instead put a fitness monitor on your socks. This Smock Sock is designed to tell you your stride cadence and running form, and even monitors how your foot is landing. This device, which is now part of an Indiegogo project, is made up of a cloth-material Smart Sock that can be washed and dried like a normal sock, and a special anklet that magnetically snaps on the cuff of the sock. This Smart Sock can be paired with a mobile application and monitor your running and other fitness activity. Let’s just hope it is smart enough not to be lost in the dryer. Light Helmet

QitaWear-HelmetBeing seen at night is key to riding on the roads, and the QitaWear Ultra High Visibility Bike Helmet, which is being developed via an Indiegogo project might be hard to miss. The developers are actually looking to produce two helmet models, including the QS-1 sports style bike helmet, and the QB-1 bicycle style helmet. Each is designed to be fully customizable with a variety of color lighting to ensure that his helmet will be seen in the dark. Continue reading Light Helmet

Indoor Ride

WasatchWhile TV’s The Brady Bunch taught us not to play ball in the house the gang at Wasatch Indoor Bike Park are taking to Indiegogo to build a place to ride year round in downtown Salt Lake City. The group hopes to convert a vacant warehouse for use as an indoor mountain bike and BMX park. We’ve seen a few similar ideas take off and this one sounds like it has potential.

However, with just a few days to go the goal is still far away, so we’re not sure this one will pan out.
