From Bicycle Retailer: Specialized workers scale down party, donate to charity instead
Specialized Bicycle employees decided to scale down their holiday party this year, and doante the excess party budget to two non-profit organizations. The employees decided in a company-wide vote about two months ago to opt for a modest office party instead of an off-site event.

In a second vote, the employees chose to donate the extra budget amount to the United Way San Jose and World Bicycle Relief. Last Thursday representatives from each organization came to Specialized headquarters to accept the donations of $15,000 each. Put a Finger on It

gunboxHaving a firearm requires responsibility to ensure that it is locked and secure. The Gun Box, which was designed by Ryan Hyde, doesn’t require a key or combination but rather only lets the authorized user access it via a RFID-equipped bracelet or fingerprint scanner. Hyde is currently looking to raise money to bring the Gun Box to retail via an Indiegogo campaign.

The safe’s shell is made from die-cast aluminum that will ensure the wrong person can’t access the firearm inside, whilst the locking mechanism utilizes motorized servos to prevent someone from prying it open.

This box can be programmed for multiple users, plus it features an accelerometer and will send an alert to your smartphone if it’s moved or tampered with, while it can even be monitored via GPS. It isn’t exactly cheap at nearly $400, but can you really put a price on safety and security? Continue reading Put a Finger on It

Safe Couch

CouchBunkerWe’ve heard of the concept of “safe room” and perhaps the CouchBunker is something for such a room, or just about anyone’s “man cave.” It is also a space safer to boot.

While there are plenty of couches on the market that feature a hide-away bed or a little storage inside, this one features a large gun safe along with bullet-resistant cushions. This could be ideal for the Tony Montana-type gangster who wants a place for his “little friend,” but it could also be idea for hunters or sport shooters who happen to be apartment dwellers.

This three-seat sofa is also comfortable enough that it could double as a guest bed, but underneath the seating/sleeping area is enough room for up to 30 rifles with space left over for ammo.

Secure Vault

TacVaultHaving a safe for firearms is usually a good idea, but one downside is that a safe can not only protect one’s possessions but it can serve to alert would-be thieves that there might be something worth stealing.

The TacVault from GunVault weights in at just 80 pounds and can fit discreetly inside most standard-sized closets – so even apartment dwellers can feel secure. This safe can hold a standard rifle or shotgun, include those with 30-round magazine. It also offers a convenient shelf for storing of spare magazines, ammunition, knives or other accessories.

The TacVault is pre-drilled so it can be secured to the floor – thus limiting the possibility that thieves could steal it along with the goods inside. There is a high-strength lock mechanism, while this safe is further built from a tamper-proof 14-gauge steel body, making it practically impossible to pry open with hand tools.

It is even available with GunVault’s patented No-Eyes keypad or biometric fingerprint scanner, while audio and LED low-battery indicator protect from direct tampering or power loss. Of course this one also offers foolproof security with a backup override key.

This isn’t just a gun safe, it is a true GunVault.
