Specialized Dishes Up CVNDSH

CVNDSHThe world’s fastest cyclist has a new deal with Specialized and it is very clear that “green means go.” Specialized has released a new line of signature products with Mark Cavendish – aka the Manx Missile. The CVNDSH Collection includes bar tape, saddle, helmet and much more.

“The bottom line is that the pieces are just so, so good,” said Cavendish. “It isn’t just my name on a jersey because I’ll never do that. I believe in the equipment, I personally helped design them with the team and I believe in the ability they have to help a rider be the fastest they can be.” Continue reading Specialized Dishes Up CVNDSH

Party Down

Specialized

From Bicycle Retailer: Specialized workers scale down party, donate to charity instead
Specialized Bicycle employees decided to scale down their holiday party this year, and doante the excess party budget to two non-profit organizations. The employees decided in a company-wide vote about two months ago to opt for a modest office party instead of an off-site event.

In a second vote, the employees chose to donate the extra budget amount to the United Way San Jose and World Bicycle Relief. Last Thursday representatives from each organization came to Specialized headquarters to accept the donations of $15,000 each. Specialized Tri’s for Women

Specialized-AliasTaking on an alias lets you be someone different, and now there is a bike that provides that quick change as well. Specialized has launched a new line of bikes aimed at women who train and compete in triathlons. The Alias model is designed to allow riders to easily switch between a triathlon race position with aero bars and a traditional road position for training. This bike features geometry and components that allow for a quick position change.

A 35 millimeter setback seatpost works for the traditional road position, while swapping to a zero-offset post and installing aero bars preps the bike for a triathlon or time trial. The carbon frame features aero tube shaping to help cut through the wind.

The Alias will be available in three complete bike models. The Alias Pro Tri will retail for $6,000, the Comp Tri will retail for $3,300 and the Sport Tri will be $2,600.

Specialized Goes SWAT

Specialized-SWATWhen we think of SWAT we think of that 1970s TV show about the police in dark blue uniforms – or police in dark blue uniforms. The idea was “Special Weapons and Training.” Specialized isn’t looking to arm up cyclists, but instead is providing a special system for carrying gear on the road. The SWAT – Storage, Water, Air, Tool – is an alternative to saddle packs as it will be built directly into frames of various 2014 models.

Specialized Goes AWOL

Specialized-AWOLAWOL means Absent Without Leave, but in the case of Specialized it means a bike that is ready for adventure. Part of the Adventure bikes, the Specialized AWOL features a rugged steel frame made of 725/520 chromoly. It also offers what Specialized calls a do anything body, one that can tackle the mean streets as a durable commuter bike and still head off road on the weekends.

While it can be set up as a road bike, it offers a slider dropout and split chain stays. What this means is that it can be quickly (and more importantly easily) converted to use as a single speed or even with belt drive. About the only thing that is AWOL with this bike might be the rider from work on a Friday afternoon.

Boa Bites Into Triathlon Market

BoaBoa Technologies has helped cyclists have a snug fit with shoes that is just right. This wire-based system works in place of laces, Velcro strips or ratchet closures. Companies such as Zoots and Speicalized have expanded into the market for triathlons as well.

For 2013 Boa will sponsor nine events including the Boulder, Colorado’s Ironman 70.3 in August and the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, in October. In addition to these two Ironman events, Boa is sponsoring seven other Colorado triathlons.

At these various events, racers and competitors will have an opportunity to stop by Boa’s booth to trade their shoes for a new pair of Boa-powered footwear at pro deal prices. Used shoes will be donated to One World Running and Mountain2Mountain, two Colorado-based nonprofits.

Tri the Sitero

Specialized has introduced its new triathlon friendly saddle, the Sitero. It is designed to provide more comfort for those 112 miles in an Iron Man, where riders might be sitting on the nose of the saddle to stay in the most aerodynamic position. It will be available this spring in a Pro model with carbon rails, and an Expert model with titanium rails. These might be something worth “tri’ing” out.

Sun Screen

Many cyclists know to pile on the actual sun screen before heading out for a ride, but the truth is that many jerseys don’t actually offer protection from the sun, meaning it is possible to get burned even under the shirt. Specialized new apparel line will however feature Deflect UV technology that has been integrated into the weave of the fabric, while still being breathable and chemical free. Best of all it won’t ever wear off.

The garments will have a minimum of UPF 30 and up to UPF 50 protection rating, and each garment is labeled with its exact rating.

Specialized to Offer “Specialized” Cycling Chamois

Bike manufacturer might just be living up to its name for 2013 as the company looks to roll out a line of attire that could be truly specialized for the type of riding one does. Leading the way are shorts that include new chamois pads (above). The Roubaix and SL chamois are designed for two very different styles of riding with the blue SL actually being the more aggressive for when the pelvis is often titled forward; whereas the red RBX is for more upright riding.

While the country is divided with red and blue states we think the red and blue chamois maybe more non-partisan politically at least. And this could even change the question from boxers or briefs to red or blue.

Cycle Jacket Protects From UV Rays

While there are plenty of ways to get out of the sun, these aren’t always possible when hitting the bike. On some rides there is little if any shade to be found. One option is to get covered in sunscreen, or donning the right apparel.

There are plenty of sun glasses to protect the eyes and now Specialized has introduced the Solar Jet Jersey, a long-sleeve top that offers a UPF 50 rating. And while it might seem odd to wear a full sleeve jersey in the heat, this one features fabric that is light and breathable that even on a hot day it doesn’t let the wearer get heated up.
