Extension Time

Now is the time of year when people are possibly thinking of extensions – like tax filing extensions or even hair extensions. But now we’re seeing the Vigurvant Foldout Pedal Extension. While this could be ideal for those with really big feet or for use when riding a bike with boots, the foldout pedal is really meant for tandem use.

This could clearly be for use with a European style touring bike more than say a road bike or even a mountain bike, but the idea here is that if you have a bike rack and need to give someone a ride they might as well do their part and help with the pedaling.

Mallet Pedal Ready to Chop Down Hill

Downhill riding is a very different sport than cross country mountain biking, and for those who look to post serious times need a serious pedal. Fortunately Crankbrothers has a pedal that let riders chop down while descending. The Mallet DH/Race pedals were used by the pros last year and is making its way to the general market.

The pedals feature a pedal body that is extruded from machined aluminum with cast steel wings and a forged chromoly spindle. The production version’s spindle is also five millimeters longer than the original Mallet, while the inner bearing is a needle cartridge bearing and the outer bearing is a cartridge. These minor improvements should be enough to help riders get the right feel on those fast paced descents.

Pedal or Paddle?

When we first saw the Moto Bicycles Wooden Urban Pedal we thought it might be a paddle not a pedal. But this wooden pedal from Germany is designed for urban riders (as the name clearly implies). The large platform provides plenty of surface area while the grip tape helps keep the feet where they need to be. Stylish and functional. Video after the jump

Interbike 2010: Look Out, Kéo Power is Coming

There is an old saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely. That probably isn’t a concern however with Kéo Power, a new pedal from LOOK and Polar. This new technologically advanced cycling pedal is much more than the place where you foot goes.

The pedal actually measures an athlete’s power output, as well as left/right balance. You do the pumping, and sensors integrated with the pedal and crank accurately measure the results, sending the data directly to a Polar cycling computer on the bike’s handlebars.

The Kéo pedal is also the lightest clipless pedal in its class, made of injected carbon with a stainless steel 17-4PH axel. While we don’t think it will corrupt anyone, it will make training as absolutely effective as possible.
