Surly Chews the Fat Tire Bike

Last year at Interbike we were able to try out some of Surly’s new snowbikes including the Pugsley and the Moonlander. These bikes of course don’t have to stay in the garage until the white stuff falls, and they work well in sand and mud as well.

But now Surly is coming out with a fat-bike that is meant for the trail as well. The Krampus is a fat tire mountain bike that offers three-inch wide tires but is actually a 29er that can handle singletrack at speed. Unlike the Pugsley, which requires special hubs, cranks, rims and other parts, the Krampus is compatible with most mountain bike parts. Continue reading Surly Chews the Fat Tire Bike

Hands On: Surly Moonlander

The leaves are changing colors and the days are becoming shorter; this means that winter is not too far behind and neither is the prospect of snow. For some cyclists this means hanging up the bikes for the winter and doing the grind at the gym. For those who want to brave the elements, there is another option – the Surly Moonlander.

Interbike 2011: Surly Rims Go Big

If you need traction and flotation in mud, sand, or snow, surly rims and tires have a combination for you. They offer tire sizes up to 4.7″ wide! If you don’t require this type of extreme gear they are still worth a look. They have hilarious names and are simply outrageous. Filmed at Interbike 2011 in September.
