Pathfinding Shoe

VibramThe Vibram Smart Concept Sole could help you find your way after dark. Introduced at the recent Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City these shoes feature a remote controlled LED lighting system that allows the soles of the shoe to illuminate the ground.

The concept was inspired by the need of military, law enforcement and firefighting personnel but it could be ideal for those who look to run after the sun goes down – or before it comes up. The shoes’ LEDs offer three brightness settings, and even a flashing red LED tail light so runners can be seen as well as see where they are going.

Spring Boots

Spring is (almost) in the air and while that means warmer weather is ahead it also means mud, lots of mud. While many of us are itching to get out and take in a hike, it helps to have the right shoes. The Hi-Tec Sierra could be just the thing. This hiking boot features ion-mask hydrophobic management technology that makes these fully water proof but yet not overly big or bulky.

The i-shell upper offers a snug fit that provides comfort and support, while the Vibram sole will help protect the feet from rocks and other uneven terrain and give grip both uphill and downhill. There is even rustproof metal hardware to ensure that these boots will go the distance. The Hi-Tec Sierra promise to be well padded, and will serve wearer’s well even when spring turns to summer.

Little Big Foot

Is it ever too early to start barefoot running? Many kids probably ditch the shoes for the summer, and not just those who live in the back hills. But now Vibram FiveFingers shoes are available in kid sizes, which will offer some protection from the cement and still allow barefoot styled running. Best of all it will let the kids get the barefoot feel and keep the feet clean in the process.

Vibram CEO to Make a Run With Topo

Tony Post, former CEO of Vibram, who can be credited with getting the barefoot running craze started, is launching a new company for the New Year. Last week he announced that Topo Athletic will be up “up and running” for 2013.

“Post’s new company marks the latest chapter in his ongoing quest to develop innovative products that help athletes become better, faster and stronger,” said a company press release. The company will debut its product line at the Outdoor Retailer winter market tradeshow in Salt Lake City on Jan. 23, 2013.

Barefoot Winter Shoe

Time and tide wait for no man and when the snow falls you can either wait until spring or hit the treadmill to get in a run. Or you can add some layers and endure a run in a winter wonderland. But what if you prefer the barefoot running? That doesn’t seem to mix with ice and snow.

But Vibram FiveFingers still has your feet covered while offering that minimalist style with glove-like fitting shoes designed for the winter. The Lontra feature a multi-layer laminate upper with fully taped seams to provide insulation and water resistance, while the micro-pile fleece liner is soft against the skin. The neoprene heel cuff will keep out snow and debris as well. Continue reading Barefoot Winter Shoe

FiveFinger Shoes Gets Fashionable

While the barefoot running shoes that fit the wearer much like a glove have become increasingly popular most of these have the visual appeal of a pair of gloves for the feet. It is to the point that we’ve wondered why the companies don’t just give up and make these look like hairy Hobbit’s feet!

Apparently we weren’t the only ones to bemoan the bland colors and lack of style. Vibram FiveFingers announced this week that the Seeya LS will arrive this fall and promises the new shoes to be a “stylish streetwear cross trainer.” The shoes will add a splash of color, but beyond the style the shoes still will weigh in at just five ounces on each foot, and will feature a non-stretch polyester mesh upper and a 2mm EVA insole and grippy rubber on the outsole.
