While you can be walking in Memphis, you can know that the new Zeal Optics’ Memphis sunglasses won’t last forever. These are part of the company’s Crafted series of biodegradable sunglasses, and are made of acetate based on Italian-grown cotton.
“Taking its hints from the retro classics, Memphis stands as a piece that transitions from suit and tie to an afternoon on the boat and is wearable by all,” said Zeal director of marketing Joe Prebich. “Subtle eye shape with a flat bridge on the brow of the glass allows for a closer, more comfortable fit. Lightweight sculpted temples help to increase comfort as well, for a long-term wearable sunglass.”
The Crafted Collection includes the Memphis, Ace, Fleetwood and Dakota models, and all are biodegradable, designed in Colorado and made in Italy.
Plastics maybe fantastic, unless you consider the ecological footprint it leaves. This is why ZEAL Optics have created a new line of sunglasses made from plant-based materials – and this isn’t just the frames; it is the lenses as well. These glasses are made from using seeds from the castor plant, and these still offer protection from UVA, B and C rays, while the lens feature a hard coating to resist scratches.
While there is no shortage of wearable action cameras the folks at Zeal Optics have another idea – namely putting the action camera in the goggles rather than on the helmet. The company introduced goggle-cameras last season and for the 2012-13 ski season – which we hear could more than make up for the bust that was last year – wearers can record in full HD.
We missed Zeal Optics at the Outdoor Retailers Show but fortunately they caught our eye anyway with the iON Goggles, which the company is showing at this week’s SIA Snow Show. The Boulder-based companies is offering a look at the iON, which features an embed high-definition camera to capture video and photos.
