Olympus Does Rugged One More Time

Olympus is one tough camera company, and by that we mean they have more than one tough camera for this year. Back in January we noted the got rugged with the Tough TG-320, a camera for the budget-minded shutterbug. Then a month later Olympus rolled out two more models, the TG-820 and TG-620. Now the company is showing it is tough enough and more with the new TG-1 iHS compact.

This is apparently the top of the line in the Tough series. It is waterproof to 40 feet, shockproof to 6.6 feet and able to operate in cold weather to 14°F. It is also crushproof to 220 pounds. So what sets it apart from the other TG models besides being a little beefier? Well, the TG-1 iHS is also reportedly the world’s first rugged camera to feature a high-speed bright f2.0 lens, along with a converter ring that allows for the addition of a CLA-T01 conversion lens adapter. With this add-on users can apply a waterproof Fisheye Converter Lens or even a Teleconverter Lens to make this more than just a point and shoot camera.

This one also offers a 12megapixel backlit CMOS sensor with a 3-inch display that is OLED rather than LCD. It offers dual image stabilization, along with built-in GPS and e-compass for recording of location and landmark information. The camera can record full 1080p HD video as well.

The Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS ($399.99 MSRP) will be ready to snap away in June.
