Olympus TG-625 Goes Uber Tough

Olympus keeps coming back for more. The company has introduced a full line of rugged cameras this year, but for those that have been holding off you might be in luck. The Olympus Stylus TG-625 is the top of the line – it is waterproof, shockproof and freeze-proof. But this 12megapixel camera with back-illuminated CMOS Sensor is far looking too rugged.

It looks durable yet stylish at the same time. But more importantly it is loaded with features, including iHS Technology, to ensure the picture. Olympus Delivers More Rugged Cameras

Last month we reported that Olympus had shown off its Tough TG-320 rugged camera. Designed for the budget conscience consumer this one still was loaded with some great features. But apparently Olympus wasn’t done, and the company has also introduced two other lines – the Tough TG-820 and Tough TG-620, which will hit stores in Japan beginning later this month.

Both series will feature iHS technology with 12megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, and advanced features including Magic Filters and Beauty mode/Beauty make. There is even a “Pet Mode” that automatically detects the face of a cat or dog and focuses before shooting the photo. Both the TG-820 and TG-620 lines can capture 3D photos, and feature 5x optical zoom, along with Full HD movie (1,920×1,080) video recording with encoding in MOV/H.264 format. CES 2012: Olympus Gets Tough Again

There was no shortage of rugged cameras at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. From Olympus it wasn’t just rugged, it was tough, as in the Tough TG-320, the latest in the company’s line of go anywhere cameras. This one is ideal for the budget conscious, as it will cost just $179.99 when it arrives later this year.

As with most rugged point-and-shoot digital cameras it is waterproof, shock-proof, freeze-proof dust-proof and still offers 14megapixel resolution. It will feature a 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom with a 3D photo mode, and HDMI port for easy connectivity to a TV. While it can’t go deep underwater, reportedly only to about 10 feet, it will still survive a little water, which can go a long way.

We’re really impressed that it can withstand weights of up to 100 kilograms or 220 pounds. The dustproof camera can even be rinsed off when it gets dirty!
