Outdoor Retailer Show Growing!

Welcome to the Thursday reading list. The trade shows continue, we’ve already seen new products come out of the Consumer Electronics Show and SHOT Show and it seems that this week’s Outdoor Retailer Show is outgrowing its home in Salt Lake City reports KSL.com, which noted (video above):

The Salt Palace Convention Center has expanded twice to host the show. The outdoor industry, and all the products associated with it, just keeps growing, and more and more companies want to be a part of this show every year. It’s kind of a nice problem to have, companies say.

Helmet News

Helmets save lives says a new study released in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics. For winter activities the study recommends hockey or bike helmets over Alpine (ski) helmets.

Researchers at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), Ottawa, Canada, performed a study to determine how well available protective headgear would fare when used for winter activities.

More on the helmet study: Hockey helmets are likely the best protection for younger children when tobogganing, according to a study by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

And can bike helmets be used when a twister appears? Possibly.

Researchers at the University of Alabama-Birmingham are recommending bike helmets for people taking shelter from tornadoes.
