Taking AIMe

AIMeAn action camera is great for providing a first person view of the action and it can even be used with various accessories to put the user in the action – creating a third person perspective as well. But if you want to track the action you likely need a cameraman to step in.

The alternative might be the AIMe from JigaBot, which works much like a robotic tripod. The company unveiled this product last month at CES and also took it on the road to the Outdoor Retailer Show. This device is designed to work with most action cameras and even camera phones and it features steel ball bearings inside that let the unit turn and even tilt to 240 degrees to capture a range of action. An internal sensor works with an infrared-equipped remote beacon to track the subject. No cameraman required. Video after the jump

Board to Bike

BikeBoardsCyclists might be getting a little “bored” of riding on the trainer, but let’s face it winter isn’t going anywhere just yet. If you can’t beat it then board up. The BikeBoards, which were unveiled at the recent Outdoor Retailer Show Winter Market, basically transforms a mountain bike into more than a snow bike. It puts front ski on the tire and allows the bike to better navigate through the white stuff.

Designed to fit tires with widths between two and five inches it can be mounted in three positions based on the snow and conditions. It features a full steel edge with a sidecut and curved tips that provide float in deep snow, as well as grip and carving on harder snow and ice. All we can say is hop on board.

Light Headed

K2-RouteAt the recent Outdoor Retailer Show winter sports gear maker K2 showed it was headed in the right direction with the Route, which it claimed was “the lightest snow-certified helmet” ever made. It weighs just 320 grams and features 59 vent holes, ear warmers and boa closure to provide a tight fit. The company noted this is actually a multi-sport helmet that could be used for mountain biking as well as snowsports, but either way it provides plenty of airflow to help keep the head cool.

The Maximum Shoes

Fresh-FoamWe’ve seen much made in the way of the minimalist shoes, but this fall there is a lot of traction being made on the other end of the spectrum with “maximum-size” shoes. Leading the pack of running shoes is the New Balance Fresh Foam, which offers a fresh take on shoes that can provide support as well as absorb shock.

This shoe features a sole that is 16mm in the heel and 12mm at the forefoot, and this might offer a feeling of running on air. The shoe also features a unique diamond-shape pattern in the foam that New Balance claims further adds stability while keeping the cushioning plush. The New Balance Fresh Foam was introduced this summer at the Outdoor Retailer Show and should be hitting the road soon.

Outdoor Retailer Show Recap: Belt Driven

This bike offers a 3-speed hub as well as rear rack, fenders and a basket, but it is the grease-free belt drive that turned out head. It will be just $850 this fall.

Outdoor-RetailerThe Outdoor Retailer expo in Utah will begin next week, but the location will be a little different.
