ROAM2 Wherever You Want

This month GoPro announced a new action camera, and that follows introductions into the category by Sony and JVC. Not to be left behind Contour has announced its ROAM2 camera, which it proclaims to be the simplest camera on the market. It offers instant on-record, and the frame rate has been up to 60fps at 720p. It can record at 1080p at 30fps as well.

The ROAM2 features two lasers on the side of the 170-degree wide angle lens to make what is being recorded. This is a novel alternative to a view finder and for those who are engaged in some activity like downhill snowboarding or mountain biking it might be a good way to know what’s in the shot. The ROAM2 is waterproof to one meter without separate housing, so it can handle a little water for sure. Continue reading ROAM2 Wherever You Want

GoPro Threes Times the Hero

This week GoPro announced the release of its new HD HERO3 camera, which will be available in white, silver and black. But most impressively the new edition of cameras has been reduced in size whilst adding new features such as built-in Wi-Fi. The new line of GoPros don’t just deliver high definition video, as these support 4K and 2.7K video resolution so those who dare to film their exploits will soon be able to see it in ultra high resolution! Look at This Looxcie Goes HD

Looxcie introduced its answer to the GoPro two years ago, but now the company has released its latest wearable camera and this one features full HD 1080p recording capabilities along with built-in Wi-Fi. It also offers streaming from the camera to Facebook via live streaming through the Looxcie App for iOS or Android.

Live mobile streaming is available up to 480p resolution, and the camera can reportedly adapt to match output capabilities of the mobile network – offering 240p at 15 frames per second on 3G, or 320p at 15fps on 4G or Wi-Fi. While recording the resolution can see a marked increase in resolution, including up to 1080p (30fps), and recordings can be saved as MPEG 4 files. Continue reading Look at This Looxcie Goes HD

Hitcase Has the iPhone Covered

Apple announced its iPhone 5 last week and those who get one will likely want to ensure that it doesn’t get wrecked while using it as an action camera. That’s why Hitcase is on the case with a new waterproof, shockproof, wide angle point of view camera case.

It can also be paired with a free Videomaeter app so users can get an overlay on recorded video that shows speed, altitude and g-force. Video and press release after the jump

Contour Doubles Down

While Sony and JVC have entered the rugged action camera market this year, and GoPro seems to be going towards and IPO, Contour Inc. has essentially doubled-down by announced its next-generation action camera, fitting called the Contour+2. The wearable camera will be available this fall for $399.

The form factor hasn’t been changed much, but that’s because there was really nothing wrong with it in the first place. Clearly Contour knows that change for changes sake isn’t the way to go. But while it may look the same this time around it offers a new shooting mode of 120 frames per second in 480p resolution. This isn’t close to HD by that ultra-high frame rate will be ideal for anyone who looks to do a “super slow motion” cut. The company has promised the “highest quality action video, ever.” Seeing will surely be believing. Video after the jump

Shoot HD Video From the Sunglass

We’ve seen various movies and TV shows that suggest that glasses could double as a camera. Well, this is a case where science fiction has instead become science fact. The Pivothead are sunglasses that feature a small camera lens in the center, right between the eyes as they say.

This camera can record 1080p video or 8megapixel still photos. Could be useful for visiting museums and other places where photos are typically not allowed – if you don’t mind breaking the rules of course! Continue reading Shoot HD Video From the Sunglass

Sony Gives Preview of New Wearable HD Camcorder

While the wearable HD video camera market already has many strong contenders Sony looks to enter the area with a camcorder that will reportedly feature Sony’s SteadyShot image stabilization technology.

This could make those user created action videos on YouTube a little easier to watch. The new “action camera” will also sport an Exmore R CMOS image sensor and ultra-wide angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, which could further help create very good look video.
