Ball Bag

The Baller’s Bag is much more than a gym bag. It is the bag meant for the tech-savvy athlete, offering padded pockets including one for a tablet or PC, plus space for smartphone and other gizmos. But this bag can also accommodate just about any ball – be it basketball, soccer, football, or volleyball – or offers space for a cycling/snowboarding helmet. There is a mesh water bottle pocket plus aside sealed side compartment for carrying up to a size 22 men’s shoe. Game on and go. Continue reading Ball Bag

Hands On: Lumbar Backpack Packs it In

For a day’s hike in the woods there is still much to bring – but hardly the right bag for the job. Many large packs are overkill, and the smaller packs still mean jamming things in the pockets or worse having the hands filled!

Mountainsmith might have a solid solution with its Lumbar-Recycled Series Day TSL R. It is bigger than the usual waist-sized pack but smaller than a backpack – in other words just the right size for those who are going on a trek but not a serious adventure. We see it could come in handy on a trek during an adventure as well. Continue reading Hands On: Lumbar Backpack Packs it In

Backpack Adds Some Light

Torch clearly likes to put lights on things. Early this year we noted that the company had designed a helmet with a built in light, and now comes the Torch FLUX backpack, which also features an integrated LED light. This light can run for two to five hours, depending on whether it is used for steady or flash modes, and it features a USB connect for easy recharging.

The LED unit is also removable and can be mounted directly to a bike seat post for those times when a bag isn’t needed. The bag should be able to endure the daily commute with ease, as it is made of 1,000 denier Cordura nylon, and features a waterproof vinyl-coated polyester lining.

Sci’Con Pack Brings Water and Power

Consider the Sci’Con back to be your personal department of power and water while you’re on a ride. We’ve seen bags that haul water in a hydration pack and those that have a solar charger. Well, the Italian-made HydraCharge offers both.

It features a solar panel for recharging mobile devices and can juice them up while you ride. It can take about four hours to get that iPhone or MP3 powered up, and while you’re doing the riding you can enjoy your own sort of juice to stay hydrated. The HydraCharge holds 1.5liters as well.

RUNNUR – The 21st Century Bandoleer

For those who need to carry a few things while on the go, but don’t want to use an actual bag or pack the RUNNUR could be the answer. Worn like a bandoleer – as in over the shoulder – it is can hold a mobile phone, water bottle and other must-have items. While it would have been a belt instead, the designers wanted to provide a messenger bag without the bag. Video after the jump

Boat That Folds

Fold up boats aren’t really that new. The military devised folding bikes for more than 100 years, and these broke fairly small. But the Foldboat takes folding to a new level as it offers a boat that can fit in a backpack and yet be assembled into one-man row boat. So while we’re sure why a hiker might need a boat, now there is boat for those who think they might need to cross a stream or river! Continue reading Boat That Folds

Made in America: Timbuk2 Bags

Timbuk2 Original Messenger Bag

Hewlett-Packard, Mattel, and Apple Computer – what do these companies all have in common? They started in someone’s house or garage and have grown into multi-billion dollar corporations. The bag company, Timbuk2, was also started in a someone’s home, but unlike those other companies, they have chosen to keep the design and manufacturing of a number of their products close to where it all began for them in San Francisco, California.   Continue reading Made in America: Timbuk2 Bags

Jet Pack

You won’t take flight with this one, but the Jet Backpack from Italy’s O-Range will let you catch some air – inside the pack! The patented Air-range inflatable padding system is designed to replace the dense foam that most backpacks provide for comfort.

The water-resistant pack features an interior valve that can be inflated, and the idea here is to make the backpack both more comfortable while providing a bit of protection as well. It is also designed to be breathable to avoid all that sweat on the back. There are plenty of internal pockets to keep electronics dry, and the company even has a solar panel version available to charge up those electronics on the go.
