LG Goes to the Backcountry

LG-BackcountryLouis Garneau knows a thing or two about going off-road, but the Canadian-based apparel and accessories maker will sponsor the Backcountry.com Professional Mountain Bike Team, providing the helmets, shoes and apparel. The team, which will wear Garneau Custom Apparel, Course and Quartz II helmets and T-Flex 2LS shoes, will compete in major North American cross-country and stage races throughout the year, including the Sea Otter Classic later this month in California, the Whiskey 50, the BC Bike Race and the 2014 Pro XCT Series.

“We make amazing mountain bike gear, but we haven’t invested as much into this segment. This has become a priority for us for 2014. We can build off of our expertise for comfort and performance found in every piece of gear we craft,” said Pierre Perron, Global Marketing Director at Louis Garneau. “The Backcountry.com Professional Mountain Bike Team, head to toe in Garneau, is the caliber of athletes we love to work with.” Continue reading LG Goes to the Backcountry

Artful Inspiration

ART-FOR-RWANDAThis week Louis Garneau presented his new series of 12 paintings entitled Hope. All the proceeds from the sale of these paintings will be donated to Rwanda’s National Cycling Team. The paintings of the Hope series are sold for $20,000 each, and all in profit of the development of cycling in Rwanda.

“For the rest of my life, I have decided to give all funds generated by the sale of my paintings to causes that I believe in. Team Rwanda is one of those,” declared businessman and artist Louis Garneau. “About 4 years ago, Jonathan (“Jock”) Boyer, the first American to participate in the Tour de France, contacted me asking me to provide assistance to Rwanda’s National Cycling Team, newly created and composed entirely of young survivors of the 1994 genocide. How could I say no to a cause like that? It is why I decided to paint the Hope series, to highlight the extraordinary accomplishments of Mr. Boyer and his riders. I am filled with admiration for these young men who lived the atrocities of the genocide and who, refusing to be taken down, chose to keep living, opting to compete in one of the most demanding sports there is.” Continue reading Artful Inspiration

Louis Garneau Shares His Art

Team-RwandaFormer professional cyclist Louis Garneau has launched a successful bicycle apparel business and he apparently knows a thing or two about art. He creates paintings that he sells so that the proceeds can be donated to charities. In the past he raised more than $200,000 for the Quebec Museum, and that money was reportedly used to expand and renovate the building – one of the oldest in Old Quebec. Now he’s back to the brushes to benefit Team Rwanda. He’s producing around a dozen canvases and the money will be used to help support the Team Rwanda Cycling program.

Louis Garneau’s Holiday Gift: A $100,000 Christmas present for the Little Brothers- Friends of the Eldery

LGPress Release: Louis Garneau and Pierre Dion presented a cheque for $101,223 to the Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly organization. Thanks to the record participation of the public to the Granfondo Garneau-Cascades presented by Quebecor, the amount raised represents $40,000 more than last year!

For Pascal Fournier, Director of the Little Brothers- Friends of the Eldery organization in Québec, this amount will greatly improve the help for the elderly: “The money raised will go towards the maintenance of the vacation home at St-Joseph Lake and to the development of the Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly in the greater Quebec region. This will allow us to welcome more lonely elderly from Quebec City and surrounding area who will never again be alone.”

For Louis Garneau, organizer of the event, the funds collected are synonymous with both victory and promise kept: “Last year, I promised that we would surpass ourselves and reach greater objectives, and that’s exactly what we did! It was possible thanks to the 3,000 participants of the Granfondo and the help of our valued sponsors. I would like to express a very particular thank you to Pierre Dion, Honorary President of the 2013 edition, for his generosity and indispensable help in making this event a success. I am proud that together, we contributed to improving the life of the elderly suffering from loneliness, while practicing a sport we love.”

Electra-fied!

ELECTRA-JACKET-2The Electra 2 cycling jacket from Louis Garneau will help keep the chill out on those cool days, and if it heats up just a bit the sleeves are detachable and it can quickly convert to a vest. The back is even vented to prevent cyclists from overheating. It features a front two way zipper, as well as chest and back pockets that zip closed to carry that important stuff. There is even a mini-light tab that helps a rider be seen at night.

The Electra 2 is made of Diamond Air fabric that is light and breathable but still can act as a windbreaker, while the Mesh Airdry will wick moisture away. It is a cool jacket for those cool days.

Louis Garneau Sets Course With Aero Helmet

Louis-Garneau-CourseWhen hitting the road sometimes you want to feel like you could take flight and this is where “aero” helmets come into play. The LG Course Aero resembles a regular road-ready helmet, with large massive vents, but Louis Garneau maintains it has aerodynamic performance that can’t be beat.

The helmet was created through extensive research at the Canadian National Research Council’s low speed wind tunnel facility, while Computational Fluid Dynamics Software was called into play to create a superior aerodynamic performance.

It features in-mold construction, with integrated strap system that provides support and protection while still retaining its lightweight status. It offers evacuation channels to increase airflow and wick moisture away, while the Spiderlock PRO II provides a snug yet comfortable fit.

Louis Garneau Sets Course

Louis Garneau has introduced its new Course 2LS Shoe with Boa Closure System for 2013. The Boa Closure system lets riders dial-in for a precise fit, and offers infinite degrees of fine-tuning with its duel reels. The Course 2LS also feature multi-vent intake air vents in the shoe to allow the shoes to truly breathe, while also offering interchangeable insoles – red for cooler weather to keep feet warm, and blue insoles for those warmer days to keep feet cool and dry.

The Course 2LS also has the power – or at least provides power transfer through its HRS-300 reinforced injection nylon that provides low coefficient of friction so the heel stays in place and less power is caused by slippage. The course is set for shoes to arrive this season.

Outdoor Retail Show Preview: Abominable Snowshoes

Like Bigfoot the Yeti, also known as the Abominable Snowman, remains something illusive. More a myth than reality, but Louis Garneau has could allow winter trekkers to tackle the snow like a Yeti.

The company has introduced the Boa Closure System to its line of high-performance Yeti snowshoes in advance of next month’s Outdoor Demo and Outdoor Retail Show. Designed for the back country these lightweight snowshoes utilize the Contact Pro Harness System for on-the-fly adjustment and a secure fit. It might be just the thing for those who hike in search of mythical snowmen.
