Bravo, the Case to Cheer

BravoBravo is typically used to express approval when a performer or other person has done something well, but few are likely to express approval when their iPhone 5 meets with a disaster. However, Bike2Power has announced that it will distribute the fully waterproof and shockproof Bravo case for the handset. It can protect the device from water, dust, dirt, mud, snow and impact.

It is waterproof down to six feet, and can withstand the impact of a free fall from more than six feet on a hard concrete floor at multiple angles. Despite all this heavy protect the company notes that all the phone features are fully accessible.

Now that is something to cheer.

Nikon Changes it Up

Nikon-1-AW1There is no shortage of rugged cameras on the market, and while most of these can endure an adventure these often leave something to be desired when it comes to photos. Fortunately Nikon has realized that a point-and-shoot camera in a rugged body simply won’t do.

The company has introduced the Nikon 1 AW1, the world’s first waterproof and shockproof interchangeable lens camera. This is the latest addition to the camera maker’s popular Nikon 1 system that offers versatility with functionality. It is waterproof to 49 feet, shockproof to about six and a half feet and freezeproof to 14 degrees. In other words you might give up before the camera does! Continue reading Nikon Changes it Up

Toshiba Gets in Rugged Camera Game

ToshibaNext week at the Interbike trade show we won’t just be seeing bicycles – in recent years more and more consumer electronics makers have been on the show floor with products such as action cameras. Last year Sony and JVC were both there, and we won’t be surprised if Toshiba makes an appearance.

The Japanese CE manufacturer unveiled its new Camileo X-Sports actioncam, which is unique in that it comes with a helmet. The Camileo X-Sports was debuted in Europe this week, not at Eurobike but rather at the IFA 2013 trade show. This means that Toshiba is still aiming at the electronics crowd first.

The device, which does look like a GoPro, offers something GoPro doesn’t – namely a built-in two-inch screen. This camera can shoot at 1080p Full HD at 60fps, and offers an ultra-wide lens. It can also shoot 12megapixel still images. Continue reading Toshiba Gets in Rugged Camera Game

Fast Footed

FasterkattWith Labor Day just around the corner we have to accept that winter isn’t too far off, but that doesn’t mean the riding has to end.45NRTH has introduced its new Fasterkatt she for winter cycling. While looking like a serious boot it is offers water resistance, moisture regulation, and comfort in the 25 to 45 degree range. These cycling shoes offer a waterproof membrane and rubberized textile shell that extends above the ankle, while a proprietary insole is built with arch support and uses heat-reflective aluminum with wool felt to keep feet warm.

The Fasterkatt is reportedly the first cycling shoe to utilize microglass outsole rubber technology to enhance surface traction while walking or running on slippery surfaces. The bottom of the shoe is even sealed to prevent moisture from coming in through the cleat slots. The shoes will get ready for cold weather riding beginning in October.

This special underwear is being developed via a Kickstarter project and could feature 100 percent superfine Australian merino wool. The cool factor is that there are two hidden pockets that are waterproof. One is a quick access pocket that is ideal for money and credit cards, while the second is large enough for a small phone or passport and is certified to be waterproof up to 200 feet deep by Scuba Schools International.

The pockets are reportedly even “food safe” as these are made from new age polyethylene, but we’re not sure if you’d want to actually put food down there.

Of course we do wonder if wearer’s might hear, “is that a mobile phone you have in your underwear…” Video after the jump

Sea Drone Camera

ZiphiusWe’ve seen a number of attempts to put GoPro and other action cameras in the air to capture a bird’s eye view, but the creators of the Ziphius had another idea. They are looking to Kickstarter to see if their “Aquatic Drone” would hold water – or more accurately not sink.

The Ziphius can take pictures and videos of a user’s aquatic experiences, and as it can be controlled via an app on a mobile device is also part remote controlled watercraft as well. As a camera platform it features a 160-degree titling angle HD camera that can capture images above and below the water level, while an LED flash light can enhance the image.

Pictures and videos can uploaded directly to social media sites including YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. So for those who want to chronicle their underwater adventures – and have some fun with a controllable water craft – this might just be the thing. Video after the jump
