Remote Control

iStick-PlaytimeA smartphone on a bike ride can do many smartphones but only if it is accessible. Reaching to the back pocket while riding down the road isn’t exactly a good idea, but the Dew Motion iStick Playtime can provide access and control of many app features for an iPhone – with an Android version in the works.

The iStick, which is currently looking to crowd funding site Indiegogo to roll this one out, is designed as a wrist wearable controller that pairs with the handset via Bluetooth 4.0. This allows wearers to answer phone calls and control various apps. Video after the jump

Just Incase

While there are many times where we’d like to leave the phone at home and just hit the trail, we know that the very reason to have it is to stay in touch. Of course bringing the phone on the go means having it covered – and by that we mean more than just any case. The SYSTM brand of cases by Incase is for the iPhone are for those who want the ultimate device protection without comprising design.

For that it means a stylish case that offers function along with an attractive form. The line of cases feature an internal shock absorbing rubber cover base layer that incorporates PORON XRD protective edges and corners for increased durability, while locking the phone in an outer hardshell. This is protection you hope you won’t need but just in case you do, Incase will have it covered.

Wahoo’s iPhone Cycle Computer Ready to Roll

We saw the Wahoo Fitness RFLKT computer at Interbike last September and now the company has announced that it is ready to roll. The RFLKT – that’s reportedly pronounced “reflect” – displays data from a user’s iPhone via Bluetooth Smart, allowing the handset to be stashed in a pocket or pack.

The device can allow users to control apps such as Wahoo’s own Fitness for Cycling App, and control features such as start/stop intervals, toggle through screens and even control music playback.

RFLKT is also compatible with third-party apps including Strava and Cyclemeter, essentially putting the control on the handlebars while the handset can stay safely tucked away.

iXtreme Obstacles App

There have been no shortage of fitness apps to help users stay fit while on the go, but the Obstacles XRT app goes to the extreme – and XRT even stands for Extreme Reality Training. It provides instructional videos based on high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts, which can be done from the home. While that might not sound particularly extreme the works promise otherwise. The only thing not extreme is that this only is available for iOS.

Bow Me Down

Archery is hot right now, thanks in no small part to movies such as Brave and The Hunger Games. And while getting started isn’t really that hard or expensive Canadian chiropractor Ron Green has devised a fitness game that can be used with an app to simulate shooting arrows. The result is BowBlade, which is far closer to actual archery than anything we’ve seen to date in a true video game. It works as a fitness device, but adds a gameplay element when combined with an iPhone and accompanying app.

It could be good for those who want to hone their skills, live in apartments (and thus can’t actually shoot real arrows) or just want to see if they can emulate Katniss before picking up a real bow. Video after the jump

Qmountz Up

The iPhone has created a revolution in tech fitness, and it actually isn’t a bad camera for capturing those moments on a bike. We’ve seen a fair share of special mounts for it, and the Qmountz case, which is waterproof and shock/shatter-resistant, could be the thing that truly turns the handset into a durable and reliable action camera. The Mapta-produced case offers options for helmet mount, handlebar mount and even chest mount. Mount up with the Qmountz.

2013 CES: Fitbit Gets Flexible

Fitness tracker Fitbit will introduce a new model this spring and it is designed for those who aren’t exactly rigid about their routines. As with other trackers the Fitbit Flex, which will arrive this spring, is designed for wearing on the wrist, and it is designed to track steps, distance traveled, calories burned, active minutes and quality of sleep. All of this can be synced to a user’s iPhone or Android drive via Bluetooth 4.0. It can even nudge wearer’s out of deep sleep with a gentle vibration.

2013 CES: G-Form Converts iPhone into Action Camera

If you have an iPhone you don’t need a GoPro or another rugged camera, you just need the right case to turn the handset into an action camera. At last week’s CES we saw such a case: The G-Form G90, which even offers a special lens that turns the handset – or even iPod Touch – into a wearable camera. This lens even allows users to take images at a 90-degree angle, making it easier to mount the handset on a helmet or handlebars! Video after the jump

2013 CES: Guardian for the Phone

We’ve seen a number of waterproof cases for the iPhone but most are in essentially just extra tough baggies, or are so bulky that it makes the handset difficult to operate. The driSuit Guardian could be the best of both worlds as it features a design that is completely waterproof but allows full audio functionality.

The case is available in two models, with the Guardian 5 model (the step up from the Guardian 4) offering two layers of clear plastic protection that still makes it possible to use the phone underwater. This is an idea that is anything but all wet.

iPhone Case Does What Apps Can’t

Apple’s commercials once noted “there is an app for that” but let’s be honest there never was an app that could cut wood, open a bottle or loosen/tighten a screw. But now there is an iPhone case in the works that features an aircraft grade alloy multi-tool fitted inside a polycarbonate shell.

While not ready for retail yet, the Task One’s makers are looking to raise funding via Indiegogo. This casing essentially transforms the iPhone into a Swiss Army Knife with a plethora of gadgets including useful bicycle tools, including a 2.5-inch knife, 1.8-inch sawblade, small and large flathead screwdrivers, medium Phillips screwdriver, pliers with integrated 3-8mm wrench, wirecutters, six metric Allen wrenches, a spoke wrench, wire stripper, ruler and a bottle opener.
