Cool Runnings

The ECCO BIOM Lite 1.1 shoe has a casual look to it, but it is actually meant for running, hiking and other activity. The concept here is that it is the shoe you can wear every day but if the mode strikes to start running it can handle it. The BIOM provides a natural foot position that is akin to the barefoot running shoes, which is expected as this shoe has virtually no padding. Thus this shoe encourages a mid-foot landing.

It also is far more stylish looking than the typical running shoe, but still features a thin rubber sole to provide some grip on the trails or pavement. It is the kind of shoe that might make you decide to run home from work.

Reebok Looks to Go Off Road

Last summer Reebok introduced the striking Shark running shoes, which were quite unlike most shoes we’ve seen. Now Reebok is back with the ATV 19+, which takes the acronym with All-Terrain Vehicles. While these don’t have wheels they are ready to go off road and are designed with special lugs that provide independent suspension and offer a wide stable stance.

As the name suggests the shoes feature a total of 19 of these lugs, which are tipped with carbon rubber that is designed to go deep in loose dirt and help get you through the rough stuff. Video after the jump

Outdoor Retail Show 2013: Snazzy Sazzi Sandals

Last March we heard about the Sazzi running shoes, which were pretty minimalistic with virtually no covering and just a sandal-like platform to offer some support and protection to the foot. Now Sazzi are introducing a new model in the Decimal, which provides independent separation of all ten toes. It also offers the patent pending Quad Post Lateral Stability System (QPLS), which employs four toe posts between each toe and thus offers a true barefoot feel without being totally barefoot.

Shoes are On

You put your shoes ON your feet but soon you might be putting On on your feet. Swiss startup shoe maker On has just introduced a new line of running shoes that feature absorbers that company refers to as “clouds.” These are small rubber circles that act as tread but also provide some bounce. These flex and even cave in to absorb shock when runners land on each stride. The company’s tag line “Probably the fastest in the world” is unique, but hopefully we’ll get to put a pair “on” in the near future and see if it is indeed like running on a cloud.
