Burton Reveals Olympic Snowboard Kit

BurtonThe U.S. Snowboarding Team will be sporting a line of apparel from Vermont-based Burton at next year’s 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The look is rather raggedy to us, but as the company noted, “snowboarding is such an individual sport,” and the uniform certain has an individual look!

The uniform won’t be available for purchase the company noted, but Burton will offer hoodies, t-shirts and accessories that feature prints and artwork inspired by the styles. Frankly, we’ll pass! We wish our Olympic athletes all the best in their efforts to go for the gold, but we wish they’d be wearing something that didn’t make them look like hobos on the slopes!

Covering the Digits

GondyWhen you’re out on the slopes you could leave the phone in your pocket (or even home) but you know you’re going to reach for it, and with the Burton Gondy Leather Glove you don’t even need to expose your hands to the cold.

These feature a soft and supple leather shell, Themacore insulation, and GORE-TEX waterproof membrane that will keep the fingers dry, while the TouchTec enabled leather palm is optimized for touchscreen control. If you don’t have these on your hands… leave the phone in the pocket (where it belongs).

Burton Snowboards Push It

We’ve seen a number of celebrity-inspired products – such as those John Denver Skis – but now Burton Snowboards and Lifebeat are looking to “Push It.” The snowboard maker has partnered with the national non-profit that uses music to raise awareness and funds in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and announced a partnership to release an exclusive line of women’s snowboards for 2014. Burton Goes Bionic

Burton Snowboards is going Bionic but it won’t cost $6 million. The company has announced that it has partnered with Pharrell Williams and BIONIC yarn to produce an urban line of eco-friendly snowboarding apparel for the 2014 line. These were shown at the recent SIA snowshow in Denver and include the 3L Jacket (above). This jacket fuses three layers of waterproof yet breathable fabric that makes for a jacket that is perfect for the slopes as well as the streets.

Burton Hits the Mystery Spot

What would an international snowman of mystery ride on the slopes? Why a Burton Mystery Snowboard! There is no mystery in that. This is the first flagship board to be produced at Burton’s Craig R&D facility, and it features the visual look of the brand’s classic boards but with the latest innovation that includes a carbon Ultrafly core and Frostbie technology to keep the edges sharp as long as there is snow on the ground. The result is the lightest Burton board to date and one meant to shred.

For those who love winter sports there is no mystery that this will be a board they’ll truly love as well.

Sleeper Hoodie

A hoodie can be an ideal garment when traveling as it can be big, bulky and soft – things that can be so welcoming in the unfriendly skies these days. But a hoodie alone can’t do it all – or can it?

Burton takes the Sleeper Hoodie to the next level too with an inflatable pillow in the hood area, integrated eye mask and even ear plugs.

There is even an audio pocket with headphone port so wearers can tune out with some of their tunes. Other features include a passport pocket and integrated toothbrush to help the wearer stay organized and neat.

It is made of a mix of cotton, polyester and soft-hand fleece to ensure it is warm yet offers just enough ventilation for long trips and those awful redeye flights. So if First Class isn’t an option, making the Sleeper Hoodie part of the wardrobe seems like a no brainer.

SIA: Magnets Make Goggle Lenses easily Swappable

Ski goggles aren’t what they used to be, they’re better. Several models have interchangeable lenses so you can swap them to suit the conditions on the slopes, but those interchangeable can be difficult to handle. Burton introduced a new pair of Anon ski goggles, which will be available in fall 2012, that use magnets to secure lenses and allow for an easy swap.

Burton Produces Line from Recycled Dew Bottles

Burton Snowboards and Mountain Dew formed a partnership, the Green Mountain Project, late last year that will show more green than the soda’s bottles. As part of the partnership Burton will use recycled Mountain Dew bottles to manufacture a number of its products. The goal is to create sustainable fabrics out of recycled plastic bottles.

We’ll see products roll out throughout the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Among the first pieces to come out will be a hand-crafted line of t-shirts made from 50 percent recycled plastic bottles and 50 percent organic cotton. The first t-shirts from Burton’s Green Mountain Project will be a line of limited edition Burton x Mountain Dew tees. Three styles include Apparatus, Flake and Chairway to Heaven. Each t-shirt retails for $27 and is available exclusively at Burton US Flagship stores.

May the Board Be With You

It is hard to imagine a truly diehard Star Wars fan hitting the slopes this winter, but apparently the folks at Burton Snowboards thought otherwise. The board maker has released a line of Star Wars themed boards ($189.95 each) featuring various characters from the original Star Wars trilogy including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda and Boba Fett. The boards range from 2.5 feet to about 4 feet long – the former likely inspiring the Star Wars joke, “isn’t it a little short for a snowboarder?” (If you don’t get the joke, chances are these boards aren’t for you). “The droid you are looking for” is after the jump

CES 2011: Kodak to Roll Out Burton Snowboard Branded Camera

Next week’s Consumer Electronics Show won’t have any shortage of cameras, but one camera is already leading the pack in style. This week Kodak announced a new marketing relationship with Burton Snowboards, and this will include the release of a special KODAK PLAYSPORT Video Camera, Burton Edition. It features the orange pixilated design of Burton’s popular Custom 154 Snowboard. So for the fashion forward boarders, it will practically be a match made in heaven.

The camera will be bundled with a camera holster that can be worn on the arm or leg, thus making this an easy camera to access during a day on the snow. It comes with a remote control, rechargeable battery and a 4GB SDHC Memory Card.  This rugged HD video camera should prove tough enough, and it is waterproof for up to 10 feet, and can capture 1080p HD video as well as 5megapixel still images. It features electronic image stabilization and LCD Glare Shield, along with built-in software with USB output for easy editing – so you can put your “dailies” up to YouTube and Facebook. The only catch for those looking to grab one is that it won’t be available until later in January from Burton.com or Kodak.com (MSRP $199.95). In the meantime, if you head to Las Vegas next week you’ll be able to see it at the Kodak Booth.
